Summary0022535: Add more Fleet Groups
DescriptionI would like more fleet groups than the current 10, please.

If you could add 15 more, I could assign the F-keys, as well as the backtick, plus and minus keys. I would remap the speed up and down to something else (e.g., page up/down).

Also, see the linked bug with fleet groups.

We use those other hotkeys for other things, and in terms of the actual groups we don't have the ability to show arbitrary numbers or characters in the text for a fleet (on fleets in the game view or galaxy view). Because of how we're baking in things, we have to have the characters specifically built in.

Having more than 10 fleets on hotkeys makes me pretty uncomfortable, in the main. There are all sorts of hotkeys that I plan on adding in the future for various things, and I lose the ability for that with so much being taken up by hotkeys if we do that. Pretty much all the F hotkeys already have some sort of binding, and probably will get more.

Pageup and down aren't in all keyboards (and on some are only modifiers on home and end), and speed changes tend to be a pretty central part of play for a lot of people and are typically bound to + and - in most games.

Yikes. Shame. I tend to control each of my combat flagships individually and spread them out around the galaxy, so it is very rare that I don't use all 9 as soon as I have enough combat and combat support fleets. (Since I can't use None I use 0 for "none")

I am playing on PC because I have more keys (and not that asinine Touch Bar), and use a non-laptop keyboard so I usually have tenkeyless or a full 104 key keyboard.

Blah. This is one of those things that I've honestly not been able to figure out. I spent a lot of hours trying to figure out if there was some way in general without cannibalizing the other things the keyboard needs to do, but I couldn't come up with much.

One thing is that I guess it's possible to recognize the number pad numbers separately from the regular numbers on the top bar, and so in theory we could have two full sets of 0-10. But I'd have to re-plumb some of the input handling for that, as well as in general then the same problem with the numbers not matching up...

It's a really major challenge, unfortunately; I just never expected folks to want more than the default 10 that most RTS games have, but it's come up several times.

shift-1 to shift-0?

No, wait, shift is "add to selection" by default. You'd need a modifier key that isn't already in use.
