Summary0022114: skewed hacking price - Old issue marked resolved, but is apparently not resolved.
Descriptionwhen using covert science hacking, the price for the first hack is alright, second is alright too, but the third one immedietly jumps the price.
30 hack points for first hack
30 x 1.2 = 36 hack points for second hack
36 x 1.2 = 43 hack points for third hack.

instead i got
30 hack points for first hack
36 hack points for second hack
72 hack points for the third hack


IMPORTANT
Skewed hacking price is for the THIRD science hack
Skewed hacking price 2 is for the SECOND science hack.

The actual hacking formula is
Cost = Base Cost * Multiplier * Times Science Hacking Has been Done

So 30 * 1.2 * 2 = 72 for the third hack

As to whether this is a good formula, that's open to debate ;-)

Changed the cost to be Cost = Base Cost * Multiplier ^ (Times Science Hacking Has been Done)

Ahhh. Well, the tooltips say it will increase the next hack by 1.2x. 72 is 2x 36, not 1.2x. I would propose that at the very least the tooltip should be changed, but I also think for the purpose of simplicity a flat multiplier rather than an exponentially increasing cost would be superior. I.e. 30, 36, 43, 52, and so on - or a higher rate of increase if desirable.

This isn't quite dealing with the topic at hand, but how did this bug report get opened Yesterday but still have a comment from May in it? And how can it be that the bug was opened at Nov 6, 2019 6:12 pm, but vinco and I apparently made multiple comments to it that same minute?

Is this one resolved? I didn't see it on the release notes page. I agree that the formula that OP was expecting is what we should be using. Otherwise it's CRAZY expensive. I'm not really super enthusiastic about making most hacks more expensive after the first time at all. Most things destroy the structure on hacking completion, so I'm not sure those should get more pricey at all. But... certainly a very slight increase, if so.

It is not resolved.

I kind of included it as a way to make people try to decide what to hack, rather than gobbling up everything with not much consequence, but if it is desired to remove it, go ahead.

I excluded temporary hacks and things like stealing Ion Cannons. Also all the faction hacks.

So when I load the "skewed hacking price2" save I see the cost is 36.
When I load "skewed hacking price" I see the cost is 43.

This seems to be working as the bug description requests?

If this isn't a problem with the science extraction hack then I don't really understand what's going on.

I see some brief discusssion of an ARS hack in the description, but if the ARS hack is the problem then why was a bug report talking about something else cloned?

If there's a problem with some other hack then please open a new bug report for that with some save games so I can test possible fixes.
