Summary | 0008940: Pyramids pointless?
Description | Pyramids take a long time to explore, for no appreciable benefit. It used to be the case that Pyramids were worthwhile if you were pursuing a Mystery, as you were guaranteed to find one. Now that that's not true any more, there doesn't seem to be any reason to go exploring through the nested maze depths. They do have lots of Enchant Containers, but that doesn't seem very compelling, compared to the amount of time invested in them.

Buildings in the grasslands usually have one or more rare enchant per building. Either pyramids/modern ruins should have more or grasslands should have less (my vote). Maybe these large buildings should be for finding new settlement buildings or for a bunch of arcane ingredients? |
Hrm. What if every pyramid was guaranteed a boss room followed by a "super-stash" (more items than normal - about 2 to 3 times as much)? I'd rather not have settlement buildings become less available due to moving them into more limited circumstances, and a super-stash would often have more arcane ingredients anyway. (The boss is to make building bosses a worthwhile endeavour, since currently non-cave non-mission bosses tend to be too easily avoided.) |
Maybe even a special boss called "Ancient <Boss Name>" that is more powerful than usual (one or more levels higher, etc.) that guards the stash. Maybe the stash could also be based on the higher level boss, and/or the boss has a chance to drop an Uncommon and/or Epic Orb. |
An easier alternative to a "super stash" would be to just have multiple stash rooms after the boss room. Similarly, instead of an "Ancient" boss, maybe there could just be one boss room after the other? So, in short: Instead of Super Boss -> Super Stash, I'm thinking Boss --> Boss --> 2-4 stashes. Those revisions aside, I like both BenMiff & Matthew Caras' suggestions. |
2 stashes in a row instead of a super stash would work well too (with a decent chance for the 2nd to be a mission or rescue instead). However, two bosses in a row doesn't feel very special; I'd much rather see a slightly more powerful boss. (It would be fairly simple to do - just set the Ancient to 2+ levels higher than the normal level for the area.) I wouldn't mind if sometimes the Ancient was normal level but a multi-boss room, though. |
I agree, those boss ideas feel better. My idea was/is largely influenced by the idea that the more novel an idea is, the harder it might be to program. That said, 2 yellow rooms in a row isn't ever done, right? I would just have 2-3 (I'm personally leaning towards 3) yellow rooms connected to the one super-boss room, like you see attached to many boss rooms in caves. (Discussion about other pyramid problems and/or possible improvements welcome!) |
what about adding a guaranteed one of those rooms with the enchant chests? Those things always spit out great stuff compared to regular rooms. |
You mean the basements? That's nice, but doesn't seem like very much; just one room with enchant chests won't convince me to explore the labyrinthine (full of mazes) pyramids. |
