"Hi, I'm playing a game against two 777 AIs along with some weak sapper allies and things were going pretty well all things considered and I defeated the first AI and withstood, barely, the onslaught of the second one.

After recovering and thanks to some clever maneuvering I took down the core worlds of the second AI to find its home system full of extra-galactic units just chilling there but supposedly not interested in me because they're hunting the 2nd AI (yes, the very one whose home system they chill in). This is a gigantic fleet that just hang there, literally filling half the gravity well with ships, and easily fielding 10 times the combat power of the 2nd AI home world on its own. Invading the system with everything I have yields very little result, with the counterattack generously making up for whatever progress I made.

I've read up on various sources online about the spawn conditions and behavior of extra-galactic fleets like this, but I am at a loss.

Please advice, how do I get these guys to go home? Have I lost? And if so, how could this have been prevented.

"The folks on discord who might be able to fix this are not really sure what is going on. Was there an AI civil war happening? Normally exo forces of this sort should not show up unless that were the case. Without a savegame we're just kind of speculating unfortunately."

There was no civil war going on as I'm a new player and I'm aware of the chaos that may cause.
Now the bug here might be that the AI fleet is hunting its own faction, but thats just a guess as it seems pretty weird. Then again, as a new player this my very first match against difficulty 7 AI so I feel unqualified to tell what is or isn't to be expected.

I have also fixed sharka/sharkb to not inappropriately trigger when the 'command station' dying is not a human command station or not owned by a player faction.
