Summary0026212: Map Ping should create small notification
DescriptionWhen someone pings system, there shold be notification what others can click and it will take them to ping location.
It is sometimes hard to find where the ping is located, as maps are big and there is much going on. At least it feels like it for me as new player.
It could be opt out setting and notification could show as button in top bar where all timers and battles are show.
each player should have seperate notification box and clicking it would cycle all the pings.
It could also show number how many active pings there are and tooltip could show planet names.

I think that having a notifier up at the top which cycles through any pings that are active and not from you (the local player) makes sense. If there have been any new pings since you last clicked it, it should always take you to the most recent one.

I think this would be a nice QoL improvement

Good to hear.
My point having different buttons for each player is more for mp games where is multiple fronts at same time, so cycling side to side could get confusing when someone is pinging path. But now that i think it more, i think it is rare scenario and could be too much clutter for notifications.

Having single button to cycle from oldest to newest is good enought.
There could also be hotkey for that (For example space bar) and when cycled all pings, pressing it could take you to your original spot (needs some kind time limit when it would take you back).
This could also work for all notifications which can be clicked to locate it. Would help to locate faster what is under attack, where that instigator is or what fleet got cripled.

Proposal: We track the last 5 planets pinged. There will be a new notification and clicking on it will cycle between the pinged planets. If no pings have been issued in the last 2 minutes, we wipe the list and the notification goes away.

I think if players are trying to communicate via pings over > 5 planets it's going to feel overwhelming regardless.

The case I want to really fix is "I ping planet and say 'Hey Other Player, can you send your fleets here?' and the other player wasn't looking at the time so I need to keep pinging'

That works for me, although under the hood where the existing pings stay, please don't reduce them in number.

A lot of times, I will do a rapid series of pings to draw in a direction. If you want to draw a shape on the planet view (to show the angle ships should move, or the directions to split up forces), then it winds up being a lot more than 5 pings, but they are all on one planet.

Using the ping on the galaxy view is of course very much smaller in that regard, because repeated pings at one planet don't mean anything.

I didn't actually realize you could ping on the planet screen, I thought it was only the galaxy screen. I think I would to ignore planet-screen pings for this.
