I just took a look. You're just running out of hacking points! Superterminal hacking continuously drains some hacking points each time the 'AIP reduction' message appears. |
What is your opinion on actually informing the player instead of pretending that something shot the terminal? |
I mean, the game ofc. What do you think about making the game inform the player instead of having it look like something shot the terminal? |
I think that'd be great, as it is a bit confusing, but I think the larger source of the confusion is that, as far as I can tell, there's nothing telling you exactly how the superterminal hack functions. The button for selecting it gives a little clue of 0.2/s, and it does mention in the hack tooltip "The longer you hold on..." so it's recurring hack but I still think it's very unclear that the hack will cancel if you run out of hacking points, particularly because superterminal hacking is the only hack of its kind in the game with how it costs more the longer it goes on and there's no set goal point like with getting a ship from an ARS. Then I believe when you run out of hacking points it should tell you not that the hack failed, but that it ended because you ran out of points. Failed hacking results in no benefit to the player where as even one tick of a superterminal hack is a benefit, so failure isn't the proper word. It could say "Superterminal hack ended; out of hacking points" or something similar, and give a more gameplay-focused description of the hack itself. Because failing to end a superterminal hack is a game-ending mistake, I believe the tooltip for both the superterminal unit and the hack should state that destroying the superterminal ends the hack, and running out of hacking points ends the hack. I'm sure it could be made a bit less verbose but this does seem very much like a beginner trap. |
