DescriptionMultiplayer game between Windows PC host and Linux client:

Received an error message during game play that "paused" the game with a message on Windows host stating something like "Waiting on [client Steam name] Connection 1..." Message is not verbatim, but I could not reproduce it again to get precise wording. However, the same error happened three times within half an hour of game play. I was able to save and reload/re-host the game to pick up and continue playing each time.

From ArcenDebugLog.txt:

"Unable to render visuals for 3.01s, because of: !ArcenExecutionContext.MessageFromMainThreadToMe_ExecutionRequested and !ArcenShortTermPlanningContext.GetAreAllPlanningContextsDone()"

Message repeats in log until client disconnection with slightly different time values, but all approximately 3.0s.

Hmm, this is something that would probably cause the ships to visually disappear but the interface and icons to keep working properly, and I should fix that.

I think that the real error message is likely going to be on the client side, though. From the sound of it, the client had some sort of error that prevented it from sending any more messages to the host, and the host was waiting for a client who never returned until the connection timed out.

This is pretty much expected for any sufficiently fatal bug on the client, and is just a matter of needing the ArcenDebugLog.txt file from the client machine -- it's in the PlayerData folder. If the client just wants to post a relevant excerpt, that's fine. There is a Player.log file that also would be useful in the event that the client has no errors in the main log file, though that would be rare. On linux that would be in:

~/.config/unity3d/Arcen Games, LLC/AIWar2/Player.log

Hi there, I'm the user that was running the Linux client in this game session. Here's my ArcenDebugLog.txt and my Player.log files.

There was not a Player.log file in the path "~/.config/unity3d/Arcen Games/AIWar2/Player.log", but I think I found the right one in "~/.config/unity3d/Editor/Player.log". The directory does exist, and there's a "prefs" file in it, but it's otherwise empty.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help test!

Thanks for the report! I do see a lot of extra messages in there that should not be getting in your way, and I will look at fixing those.

But the exception that is a problem and that probably caused the disconnection was this:

Squad CalculateSpeed exception at debugStage 1000, exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
  at Arcen.AIW2.Core.GameEntity_Squad.CalculateSpeed () [0x0000a] in <ecae222e0fca4af5b05f4aad849d60ed>:0

What is interesting is it looks like Tzarro you hit this error once, and narwhalofages you hit it twice. It looks like that killed the background thread in question in each of those cases, which led to the disconnects.

The other stuff with the repeat messages of

Unable to render visuals for 3.00s, because of: !ArcenExecutionContext.MessageFromMainThreadToMe_ExecutionRequested and !ArcenShortTermPlanningContext.GetAreAllPlanningContextsDone()

Is really annoying, and I think I will try to make that be quiet. It should be allowed to render the visuals then.

* The major cause of "Unable to render visuals for 3.01s, because of:" was some timing issues that really should not have been happening in the first place, but they kind of compound display strangeness when it did happen.
** These messages should no longer show, and so far as we can tell it should let things continue working appropriately.
