 Yeah, that was deliberate. "Allied to players" it very clear what's going to happen in a way that "friendly to players" doesn't to my mind. "Friendly to players" is "This faction behaves 'as normal' but just is on your side".

The Scourge spawn with you on your home planet when the game starts, which is different.
