Summary | 0023139: lost my command station upgrade
Description | I spent 1k science to upgrade a command station, but it's units are not upgraded. i think this has to do if the command station dies or not. the command station itself is mark 2, but the units that it owns did not mark up. you can tell because there is a mk4 bastile and mark 5 bastile turret at the same time.

with some testing, i figured out how to repeat: level up a command station, scrap it, repeat and it'll downgrade in marks. |
This is for the direct upgrade at just that one planet, not the global upgrade for its whole type, right? |
I'm not sure I see a problem with "You paid to level something up. You scrap it. You lose the levels" |
You paid to level up the planet as a whole, though. That's attached to the fleet and should stay with it even if you get a new command station. There's apparently a bug there somewhere, if I'm understanding properly. |
right, sorry for being laconic there, was 5 in the morning for me. I don't know if this is intentional at this point, but with this "bug", it is now possible to have split mark stuff on planets. Sometimes, there's a cloaked enemy that refuses to go away, and i can't build a station keeper sentry frigate without rebuilding the command station, and the command station refuses to rebuild until all enemies leave the planet. or sometimes it's just a weak enemy force present and i can begin rebuilding as they're retreating/dying. Now that I'm aware of this feature/bug, this further disincentivizes my willingness to upgrade planets with science, since now it's possible to permanently waste science. At least rebuilding the command station instead of scrapping then replacing the CS doesn't demark it. TL:DR: Complaint: by scrapping a command station, you waste science permanently. it's gone for good. Argument: There are cases where destroying a command station intentionally is a good move can arise, such as warden pathing manipulation, or simply rebuilding faster, or repositioning the command center if necessary. |
i.e: here you can see a split bastile and forcefield mark |
In the above save, it has the problem demonstrated, right? |
Yes. earlier, i had upgraded my station using science, and after scrapping it to move farther away, that's when i noticed i had been unable to place the 1 mark higher stuff. this is also replicatable on other worlds. To replicate: Level up a command station. Scrap it. rebuild it. the first time, you can still build a mark 2 station, but everything under the command station such as turrets or other defenses will no longer be one mark higher. scrap and rebuild again, and you lose the upgrade for the command station. |
Okay, on Hatton I see that it is Mark II as a command station for reasons that make no sense. I also see zero science upgrades there. If I upgrade it via science, then it levels up further. Delete it, and create another one, and it's back lower again and it still shows no fleet upgrades from science. I'm not sure why all that is. I did put these in, while looking into some of this: * Techs that have already been fully unlocked now continue to show up on the tech sidebar, since having those disappear was freaking confusing. ** They now show up with a line item saying "COMPLETE" instead of some sort of science cost. * When viewing the tooltip for a unit, it now shows how many upgrades have happened out of how many upgrades for each tech line that benefits the unit. ** This way you can tell WHY it is the mark level it is, aside from things at the fleet itself that are leveling them up. |
Thank you! * Fixed a rather inexplicable "bug" (really a design choice in code that made no sense in retrospect but has been there since the fleet redesign well over a year ago) where if a unit was put into a different fleet than initially expected, it would wipe out all levels from EXP or science. ** The main practical effect of this was that anytime a command station died, then any levels that you got from science upgrades to its fleet were reset to zero, which was a huge negative of course. This is now fixed. *** This did lead to some ships or turrets being a higher level (based on the old science upgrade levels) compared to newer ones. Basically items that are a certain level won't level-down, so even though the science was taken away, they wound up still being at the higher level. But new items built would be at the lower level. This isn't something that we can fix in existing savegames (same thing with the lost levels from science in existing saves in general. But for all future upgrades, including in existing savegames if the upgrades happen in this or future versions, they will now be retained. |
