Summary | 0023090: No ship models on Linux with Vulkan
Description | I know Vulkan support is still experimental, but I didn't see this bug listed here. There are no ship models on Linux with Vulkan. If it matters: I have 2 monitors. I have the game running only on one (its an ultrawide 2560x1080). This happens in both fullscreen and windowed mode. Here are my basic PC specs: Fedora 31 64-bit AMD FX-8350 with 32GB of RAM Radeon RX580 with 8GB Default Mesa 19.2.8 video drivers

That's good to know, but it's something that is based completely around the underlying engine (unity) and your drivers and your installation of vulkan on your distro. It sounds like indexed arrays of shader parameters are not working properly somewhere in that pipeline on vulkan for you, but it's something that a future update to vulkan or your drivers might fix, or a future version of unity might. It's one of those things that's great for people when it works, but it's all below the level of what we can actively fix ourselves -- OpenGL is definitely the way to go in most cases, unless vulkan happens to work perfectly for you on your specific setup. Somewhat the vulkan support is future-proofing, since most of the problems are below the level of the engine and I think that vulkan may wind up being a lot more popular than OpenGL in 5-10 years and thus you'd still be able to run this game on there without it being in a legacy mode, even if there aren't many changes on the unity side for some reason. I do appreciate the note, and if the status changes later it would be great to know also, but sadly the vulkan support aspect is a bit out of our control when it comes to a case by case basis with computers. Thankfully OpenGL is rock solid in all cases I'm aware of! |
