|Summary||0022817: Melee units don't attack moving targets after initial attack|
|Description||The melee units will catch up to their target if it's slow enough without issue, but then they often fail to attack properly after their initial attack. In the attached save file (Melee Unit chase problem 1, see fleet 1 on Blue Hydra) you can order the Metabolising Gangsaws to attack the Tank Astro Train. They can easily catch up with it, because they are three times as fast as the train, and after the initial strike they don't seem to do any more damage while they are following their target. |
If I take manual control and move the saws in front of the train and then tell them to attack again, they will do some damage and then stop again. So fully utilising melee units against moving targets with a lot of health like Astro Trains, Dire Guardians, and the AI Overlord Phase II require quite a lot of micromanagement if they are moving.
They do fine against stationary targets; they can even attack units that are tractoring them even if they are not in melee range.
