Summary0022363: Toggle for firing on immobiles/sniper issue/network issue/Mantised by request of Arcen
DescriptionPer request from Chris

Currently infinite ranged units automatically target everything up to and including immobiles like guard posts. This can be frustrating for players in some situations; on the other hand, there are situations where this is very handy.

One suggestion was to add a new mode for units (automatically target immobiles/don't automatically target immobiles) with an in-game toggle hotkey. This would allow the player to manually override by clicking an attack order but would prevent the infinite ranged units from automatically erasing guard posts etc if they player didn't want it. This could actually be handy both for infinite ranged and finite ranged units. (The reporter considers this the best option, but: UI work, other considerations.)

Another was to make this a personal setting toggle applied universally to infinite ranged units only. About the personal setting Chris had this to say:

"A personal toggle would be tricky in the way we have things like construction, because this targeting logic is something that is run on all clients and the host in multiplayer. So this really feels like it needs to be... basically a new mode, to be frank. It doesn't have to have a hotkey, and maybe snipers default into it. I dunno, it's complicated with that.

In a MP-safe way, there's not a super clean way to handle this, although with some reflection I might think of a way. Maybe we need to start having some personal toggles that get synced over to the Faction object, and it can then be read from there. That... actually is not the worst idea ever. That would be MP-safe and much less fiddly than a whole new mode."

Added "aggro invisibility" recently, which solves this! :)
