Summary0022250: Suggestion for Devourer expansion/rework
DescriptionI'd like to see the devourer work as follows: Devourer nanocausts ships, then uses them to defend itself while it "evolves" to become more dangerous. After finishing all evolutions gains the ability to target and destroy command stations. Pick off its supporting forces to prevent evolution, kill it while in cocoon, or defeat it in combat to prevent it from ending your (or the AI's) game.

The Devourer is already the single most powerful unit in the game... I don't think it could Evolve into anything to make it more dangerous without messing with game balance pretty egregiously. It also seems pretty unlikely that enhancing the Devourer would lead to interesting storytelling or flavour goals. It feels a bit like the initial design of the Nemesis as proposed by Keith that neither Chris nor I found very interesting.

I think expanding the Macrophages is a more plausible route if you want something like that, and a few ideas have been floated on that score.

Well, I do see the current devourer as being effectively the final form. So there would be baby devourers, and it would start out as a baby. But I get your point, and I've heard that anything requiring new models is off the table anyway.

The Macrophage is the reimagined and more interesting Devourer. Modding changes are always an option, but I don't intend for any further changes to the Devourer
