Summary | 0022005: Not allowing merging defeats the purpose of ship stacking
Description | Fleets with duplicate ships cannot stack with each other's units. Forcing players to have multiple fleets with the same unit type causes worse performance for the sake of some questionable enforced game balance. I mean, this was a big deal, this will allow for some really massive battles on low end systems, but now we're worried about forcing players not to death ball? This doesn't even do that. All it does is make the player have to have more flagships altogether. XP as it currently is doesn't do what you want it to do. Instead of forcing players to have multiple copies of the same ship, instead let us look at how XP is used, and how we can use it to better encourage players to spread out their forces.

Ideally you're not having a ton of ship types that are duplicates, anyway. The main problem with merging is that it's a one-way activity if we allowed that. Then people would want to split them, and that causes problems. As for having more ships in a given fleet (that can then stack), I ABSOLUTELY agree with you, and I think that's important. But it's something that I think gets confusing when an ARS works one way sometimes but the other way the rest of the time. I'd like to potentially have less of an emphasis on ARSes and more things that add to the ship cap of a line or two in a fleet. In that way it's not merging (so splitting doesn't become a thing), it's instead clearly a ship cap buff for that specific ship line. I'm still thinking on the particulars of that mechanic. |

Reducing the number of ARSs in the galaxy sounds reasonable once the "Give bonus ships to a ship line" thing is in. Note that this will also require some UI to do properly if the player gets to choose which ship line. If you do such a UI, if you could also make it possible for the player to pick between several ship lines in an ARS to grant, that would make a lot of people happy. |
|
Sure, I'd be happy to do that in terms of giving people more choices at the ARS there, too. |

We added ship-cap-doubling stuff in the prior build. :) |
