Summary | 0021944: Remains Consume Power.
Description | Unlike AI War 1, Remains appear to continue consuming power, even before they are rebuilt. This means that, on losing a planet, the ruined defenses still eat power, but the lost command center doesn't support them, resulting in a drastically higher chance of brownout. I am unsure if this is a bug, or intended behavior. If intended, I am unsure how to manage power, without scrapping all defenses of a lost planet, then manually rebuilding it later.

Remains were changed to cost energy because there was an issue with turrets dying and freeing up energy, then ships getting built (spending energy that the turrets used to be using), then the turrets being rebuilt causing a brown out. |
That's what I recall being the reasoning too. |
I think it's probably better to make the turrets just not rebuild if there's not enough energy? It's hard to come up with something that won't confuse someone. |
I see the reason. Unfortunately, it still means your power crashes extremely hard if you lose one or more planets. And while that is kinda ok, having the solution to be scrapping all the remains on the lost planet is less so. Having turrets not rebuild without energy available seems like a good answer, and makes sense. After all, You can't build new structures, and factories can't build without energy, and extending that to rebuilding shouldn't be THAT confusing. |
Also, Why can't you/How do you edit Notes here? Because I need to add more and hate doubleposting. Power brownout is now properly lethal because of the 60 second cooldown, unlike before, and having to scrap remains to prevent it just means more effort rebuilding again, Manually. and so, while I have no problem with brownouts having this effect, it is the lack of tools, or weird mechanics that make it hard to handle that I feel are a problem. |
Right now remains don't cost energy. You will no longer rebuild remains if the rebuild would put you into brownout. |
