Summary | 0021455: Changing caps when moving ship types between different fleet types.
Description | Now that ship types can be swapped between different fleet ships, newer players may get confused as to why the ship caps changes from one fleet to the next. One way to resolve this is to expose the fleet-specific multipliers that's currently on CMP_Ships_FlagshipOther.xml to the GUI, and explain that fleets comes with different focus on frigates and strikecraft: multiplied_frigate_ship_cap_for_mobile="1.1" multiplied_strikecraft_ship_cap_for_mobile="2" Another obvious way would be to attach the multiplier to the ship type itself so it doesn't change on move , although that might be more work. This also means that perfectionist players don't feel need to maximise efficiency by making sure strikecraft-focused fleets get only strikecraft and no frigates (and vice versa).

Thank you! * The "multiplied_frigate_ship_cap_for_mobile" and "multiplied_strikecraft_ship_cap_for_mobile" have been removed, as these were things that caused the number of ships to be increased at specific centerpieces. ** Prior to us being able to swap units between lines, that was no problem. But now it's something that was just confusing, and there are better ways to accomplish the equivalent thing. ** For Arks and Golems (officers), having larger fleets isn't really the point anyhow; they should be bigger and scarier on their own, and the fact that their fleets are not really better or worse than other fleets is fine. *** In the future, we can make it so that they pull from a separate set of fleet designs that have larger caps built in, if we want, and the good thing is that then when there are ship swaps between fleets, the extra ships will transfer properly. There doesn't seem to be a need for that right now, but the important note is that it's actually possible if we do feel inclined. ** This change is going to reduce the ship counts on a lot of the fleets, in existing savegames as well. If this is a problem, then please let us know and we can adjust the seeding count ranges on the fleet designs in order to rectify that. But in general it MAY be that people were having a few too many strikecraft and such anyhow, and that Golems/Arks are underpowered; we want you to feel inclinded/excited to pick up those officers in the late game, but it may have been that the regular ships were so plentiful that it wasn't really worth it. |

> but it may have been that the regular ships were so plentiful that it wasn't really worth it. On this point, yes, but more so into the mid-late game. To put some actual numbers, I can min/max a strikecraft-focussed transport fleet to end up carrying 5 mark-5~7 ship types. This totaled 1,800 ships (not as many as I could squeeze in, but generally useful ships). The fleet alone rated 347 strength, which would rival a AI homeworld. A wee bit overwhelming compared to Arks and golems. |

Holy guacamole, that's super powerful. Well, I've made a 0021471 to try to work on that some. Obviously these fleets will be a bit less powerful coming up anyhow, but still. Wow. |
