Badger, if you see this -- unrelated to this topic, but I can't find the other one where you were recently talking about shot visuals not being created a lot of the time now since they were shooting off to nowhere with no target...

Right now with the "wiring up" of the visual shot effects, that's trying to find the target entity that it was heading to, and often failing to do so. Your problem, as stated, is that basically when you look for the data on the target, it's not there for some reason (probably the ship died). If you let me know where it is that you're running into this problem, with a CHRIS_TODO comment or whatever, I can put in some code that basically on the GameEntity_Shot remembers the game-space location of where it ended up, and thus we can use that to render the shot. There's some mild complexity with some edge cases like if the shot got pooled and reused, but I have some strategies to deal with that and it probably won't be super duper common.

Anyway, this is actually unrelated to the specific error being reported here, but it's related to the shots not showing up a lot of the time, which I imagine the changes you made to avoid that were what led to this error (or it's a coincidence).
