Summary | 0019544: Let's have it not exit placement mode for a ship after you've placed it unless the ship cap is run dry.
Description | Per Cyborg and some other discussion, let's have it not exit placement mode for a ship after you've placed it unless the ship cap is run dry. That whole thing with holding shift in order to keep being in placement mode is actively confusing people, mainly because other RTS games have changed things up over the years. I even find myself doing it wrong. Basically I'd like the flow to be: 1. Click thing on sidebar. 2. Be in placement mode. 3. Click to place something. 4. Still in placement mode. 5. Right-click or hit escape in order to exit placement mode, if I want. OR: 6. Keep clicking to place more of the thing, but when it runs out of ship cap, auto exit placement mode for it.

There definitely needs to be good visual feedback for "You're in placement mode" then. |
|
That's on my personal list for the sidebar, although it's also pretty apparent given how the cursor changes. |
|
* When you are in ship placement mode, it no longer exits ship placement mode when you place one ship. Instead it stays in there until you press escape or right-click. Previously you had to hold down shift for this to work this way. (If this is not sufficiently obvious that you're in placement mode, then we'll deal with that separately, but the icon following your cursor seems good to me.) |
