Summary | 0000168: Logo Missing On Main Startup Screen
Description | Upon firing up v3.701, I am greeted to a naked main menu screen with no title...and in this screenshot, not much of anything else, either. I get no title every time I start the game. If I cancel a game and go back to the main screen, the title logo appears in the upper right corner as normal. This isn't a very dynamic landing page to say the least. :)

Can you check inside your RuntimeData folder inside your game folder for error files? Or the output_log.txt file inside AIWar_Data? Something is messed up there, it should be looking the same as in 3.700 but something isn't loading for you. |

I just searched in RuntimeData and all I found was a NetworkServerErrors.txt file, but that doesn't seem appropriate at the moment. I went ahead and ran the game again (direct Exe launch, no shortcuts) and produced another screenie above, and I also posted the output_log.txt here directly after that session was over. Perhaps of note; I installed the latest nVidia drivers last week @ v258.96. I will go up there and see if there are newer updates in case they hosed something. Thanks in advance! |
Okay -- I thought that even the starfield wasn't showing, but that's clearly not the case. It's odd that the logo isn't there, but it's less sinister than it otherwise would be. ;) We'll see what we can figure out, it's probably not your graphics card driver based on what you posted this last time. Thanks! |
I just uninstalled it completely, deleted the Dir manually, reinstalled it, registered all three products, restarted the game, and it does the same thing. I also checked nVidia and the current drivers are still at v258.96. As I was saying originally, if I start a game and then cancel and go back to the landing screen...the logo is magically there. Quite strange indeed. o_0 Thanks again. :) |
My reading comprehension is low today -- must be the lack of sleep. The fact that it shows up after you cancel out of a game should be all that I need to know in order to find this. Thanks! |
Are you still seeing this in 3.703? I didn't change anything for this specifically (didn't see anything to change yet), but some of the coordinate system stuff is now hugely different in general thanks to the orthographic camera fix, so perhaps that will help. Fingers crossed! |
The logo is still missing on the landing page and that hasn't changed throughout the new versions. From what I can tell, nothing is showing up including clouds, too. I just checked with the v3.703 update and took a screenie again (I'll try to post above). As usual, when I go to cancel a game and return to the landing page...the logos (AI War, Arcen logos) and clouds are there. It's strange that nobody else has chimed in on this issue but me. |
That is quite odd indeed. |
For me the logo and nebula on start screen show when the object loading counter counts down. Shardz can you see this counter at all when game loads? PS. Try to go to nvidia driver settings and disable threading optimizations or something like that. I observed _very_ strange behavior of OpenGL driver when that option is on. It was repeatable and caused some of the rendered primitives to be missing... |
Upon firing up the game and seeing the Object Load box...I still get nothing in the background. I tried it several times and sometimes I can see the stars faintly (screen is dim during this time), but that's it. I went into the nVidia control panel, added AI War and messed with the settings...I'm assuming this is what orzelek was referring to. It was first on Auto, then I tried Off, then I tried On...I get the same results on all three settings. (Screenshot above - AI War nVidia Settings.jpg). |
One interesting thing I just noticed that might be a clue...When I apply those settings in the nVidia control panel and close that down, I restart that control panel and the icon for AI War becomes the OLD SlimDX icon. I'm not sure if that is my icon cache file that is hosed or perhaps a registry entry which reverts to that icon. Screenie above on the icon. Really strange stuff here... (Screenshot above - AI War nVidia Settings 2.jpg). |

That's REALLY bizzare. I think that in the 16:10 screen resolutions, there are simply some visibility issues of some sort. Hopefully I will be able to duplicate on my 16:10 macbook, we'll see... |
I'm actually at 16:9 I believe. 1920x1080 32 bit @ 60Hz native resolution...I did check the game settings and I'm at 1920x1080 (full screen mode, non-windowed) in there, as well. Edit: I also tried Windowed mode within the game settings and get the same results. |
I got curious and started AI War on laptop with GTX220M. I can tell now that on my PC also not everything is shown - Radeon 4870 graphics card here. I have stars, nebula and AI War logo but no arcen games logo which displays correctly on laptop. Laptop has some ancient nvidia driver from 2009. Screen resolution is identical on PC and laptop - 1680x1050. The arcen games logo won't show up on PC even after going to host game screen and back, starting up the game and going back to menu helps. Edit: Updated the PC drivers and tried windowed mode - no change.. arcen logo still MIA |
I guess it would be nice if I included my system specs, as well. Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Intel i5-750 (2.6gHz x 4 - No hyper-threading on this chip - default clock speed) BioStar T5XE CFX-SLI nVidia GTS 250 1024 Meg (current drivers @ v258.96) Patriot 4 Gig @ 1333 (default clock speed) DirectX files current orzelek: Sorry to hear the Arcen logo isn't showing, but I'm happy cause this verifies I'm not going insane. This is even more odd since it's picking and choosing what to display. o_0 |
Yeah, I'm pretty puzzled by this, too! Though I think I may have an idea: it might be related to an incorrect viewport-to-screen setup that just happens to kick in on these resolutions. As I say, I'll see what I can find out on my widescreen mac, but for now I've been pretty consumed with this: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=348 This one is high on my list, though! |
The fact that game menu is always there is a bit reassuring... but other elements seem to be not guaranteed. In short it's not: resolution, drivers, graphic card vendor, OS probably also not (laptop with correct start page is Win 7 x64 like my PC) (nijnaed...) x4000: I removed resolution from the causes list since on laptop with 1680x1050 it works... |
Chris: Yup, you got it! I changed my resolution in-game to 1280x768, restarted the game, and everything displays properly; AI War logo, Arcen logo, nebula, stars...all that and more. The stars also have quite a bit more distance between them and isn't as dense as my 1080 resolution. I had one game where it was almost 75% stars in the background...careful flying around in that environment! lol No biggie on the priority cause this is purely cosmetic anyway... |
Actually just noting the same sorts of issues are being discussed in 0000155 shardz definitely seems to be either resolution or aspect ratio related. |
Well, at least we know what to throw code at now. All week I was trying to convince myself that I wasn't seeing things and just wrote it off as one of a trillion problems I'm having with Win 7 x64...but alas, the bug reared its ugly head and the villagers rejoiced. |
When I switch to 1024x768 or 1280x768 on PC I get arcen games logo back after startup. If I switch in game back to 1680x1050 logo disappears without game restart. |
Confirming this on my computer as well. Switching from 1920x1080 down to 1280x768 will display the logo and a more "sane" starfield. |
For 3.704: * Fixed a bug that could potentially have caused display issues with certain images not rendering on larger resolutions in the lobby and main menu. * It is now possible to see the screen/viewport sizes in the F3 debug menu. So, if you guys still see this issue in the next version (which will be out within an hour), can you let me know and tell me what the values are on that new bottom line (Screen / Viewport) in the F3 menu for you? |
Sure thing...I have a pal coming over for a little bit within the hour, but I will get on that ASAP and let you know what I find. Thanks a bunch! |
I'll have my fingers crossed! :D |
Yeah, baby! We have logo! Woohoo! :D Everything looks great at the landing page and I posted a screen above with the requested information. Great job, Chris & Keith! I'll do more testing when my pal leaves in a bit. WooooooooooHoooooooooooo! Edit: Dang, I got so excited that I forgot to convert the image to jpg. o_0 Well, enjoy that 1.36 megs of graphical splendor anyway. lol |
AWESOME!! So, it turns out it was apparently something to do with the Viewport being set differently from the actual screen resolution right on start, and my code was incorrectly checking the viewport coordinates for graphics culling instead of the actual screen resolution. Glad that's all it was, in the end! |
