Summary | 0001618: Asteroids very rare?
Description | Started a new game, and was under the impression that asteroids were meant to be on all non homeworld planets. I have found very few planets with asteroids in my initial scouting. Tried generating another map, same problem. They exist, but seem much less common than before, when they are meant to be more common now.

I've noticed this as well, many of the maps I generated felt much more sparse then they were before when it came to asteroids. I expected all non-homeworld planets to have them and was surprised that many plants did not. It's also a problem for converted saves, so it isn't just fresh ones. |
Thanks! |

I just created a new map in 4.043, and looking around with the "I can see my house" view all planets cheat turned on, it doesn't seem like there's particularly more asteroids than before, but then I'm not sure what the intended amounts are supposed to be. |
You do have the spirecraft minor faction turned on, yes? |
Yes, I do have the spire minor faction enabled. :) I checked the map again now with the new asteroid filter (thanks for that!) and it seems I started ina somewhat sparse asteroid area on the 4.043 map I was looking at: it seems overall about as much as my pre-4.041 map save, so it looks like it's improved from 4.041. But I had thought 4.041 was supposed to put asteroids on all the non-homeword planets... From the 4.041 release notes: When asteroids are seeded into a campaign, they are now seeded onto all non-homeworld worlds. This makes them work in a much more friendly fashion with long-running existing savegames. Or am I misunderstanding that? |
Yes, they should be on almost all non-homeworld planets. Not all types on every planet, of course. What you may be seeing is just a factor of random clustering in this specific map: right now it's not a portional thing, but a random-chance-per-planet. That means that in certain seeds, you see no Titanite, and in others you might even see almost no planets with asteroids at all. That's a problem that I'll fix in 4.045, to make it portional instead of random-per-planet. Hopefully that's what this is, because I am not seeing it when I start new maps. |
That must be it, then. Thanks! |
Sure thing! If you still see it in the next one, do let me know, though. |
