DescriptionWhile most guardians are approaching a level where they are both unique, a threat, but still able to be dealt with, I can't say it is for the Lightning Guardian.

A single (or even a group) of Lightning Guardians are pretty much useless. They're a damage sponge, if anything. Their damage is far too low to even matter to a mid-sized fleet and their refire rate is so low that they most likely only get to fire once before getting instapopped by said fleet.

I'd like to see these like a more dangerous target. Can their damage be buffed, perhaps?

well thats just it - how do you make them powerful, without making them OVER powerful? Any large scale area of effect weapon has this issue.

Thus, my recommendation - give them more attack, but drop their range, say, below lightning warhead range (1k ish maybe at max)

at this point, id be comfortable with them having ~ 20-50k attack - making them incredibly threatening, if you let them get close (or, say, coming out of a wormhole)

i think this puts them up with lightning/raider/flak/artillery in terms of LOLTHEYJUSTMURDEREDMYFLEET, but not quite as potential to hit the ENTIRE fleet at once

Lancefighter has a great idea! As an addendum, make the lightning chain through a large fleet. If you blob the guardian at close range the lighting is going to travel through your fleet. Each of your ships channels the lightning at the same range of the guardian until there are no more ships in range.

Yep, I pretty much agree with Lance. The Guardians are supposed to have this "OHSHIT!" feeling to them, and that insane attack would do that, and you would stress to get that fleet out of the way, or even destroy the guardian before it reached you. Not a bad idea at all!

I agree, however I would say (like the others) attention would have to be paid to their speed and range. Ideally I would like them to be a real threat again, and something that can really punish a fleet blob if you aren't paying attention, but they shouldn't close the distance so quickly it becomes a chore dealing with them.

One other thing I realized is that when Chris gave Lightning Turrets what amounts to "ignore armor" (armor piercing of 100000), he didn't give that to Lightning Guardians. So I'm going to fix that, quadruple the base attack, and halve the range, and we'll see what happens.

We could go with yet another 4x damage, 1/2x range, but I want to avoid going too extreme there as there are some fairly likely situations where your fleet is going to be majorly bunched up and HELLOTHERESALIGHTN-boom. We'll see.

Resolved for now at least. Can be reopened if lightning guardians are still insufficiently scary.

4x damage, half range, and armor pierce 100,000 sounds good.

BTW, will Electric Shuttles also be getting that AP? Looks like (last I checked) they got missed when Lightning Turrets got their upgrade.
