Summary | 0009374: Homeworlds are too easy
Description | Even before all the superweapons, they just were not that hard, typically being as or less difficult than a single max-time wave. The brutal picks are certainly a step in the right direction, but I would like a plot (or minor faction setting, something) that gets the AI to beef up its HWs.

I agree, i don't like that you can practically neuter the AI homeworlds. It's so anti-climatic, surely the AI should realise it's in immense danger and do something. Right now it quickly runs out of ships and doesn't replace them if the homeworld isn't on alert. |
Once you put a single military ship on a HW, I think both of them should be permanantly alerted. Among other things to buff the most important part of the game. |
I like the "once there is military presence on a homeworld, both homeworlds are perma-alerted" idea. After all, if you have shown that you are strong enough to reach the homeworld, they AIs need to start being very concerned for their homes. Care will need to be taken with the "brutal pick" guard posts and some other AI special structures, as some of them are tied to alert. The ones that can spawn on the homeworld may need to be shifted to trigger on military presence. |
First, I think I like the perma-alerted HW idea. Having said that, a while back before all the tweak/normalizations to reinforcments/waves/etc. happened (going back months here) there were reports of people reaching the HWs and going "I'm not even going to try" and gave up because the HW's would be so hard. Now, the brutal picks change might have fixed most of these, but I'm pretty sure I saw one that gave up based on how many ships the AI HW had. So, I'm not sure really. Expect more feedback once I hit the HWs in my current game. |
I had a side idea, that when a Core Guard Post is destroyed is beefs up all those same type of Guard Posts throughout the galaxy. If you've already cleaned house you deserve to win anyway, but if making a bee line to the homeworld you can end up with very agro guard posts. |
