Description | Short version: Save a neinzul hive the ai hasn't hybridized yet, bring their colony ship back to your capital and settle it to get access to a set of neizul fleet ships and a single cap ship ala hybrids. Long version. Find the free hive using a survey like the start of fallen spire, that picks up signals of some sort from the fight, or a disturbance from their cloak or whatever. Show up, fight off AI attack. Offer of alliance. Hold the AI off for long enough for the hiveship to get moving. Get it back to your capital. This phase starts as soon you show up with a certain degree of force, you don't get to wait to use a survey ship after taking the planet. On the other hand, the hive has it's own defenses, is quite tough, and is much faster than a shard. Get it home, and you can expand it into a free hive. The hive has a couple weapons, plus modular slots for more, as well a FF module. It builds your alliance flagship (basically a human-neizul alliace version of a hybrid) and some sort of fleet ship. The human hybrid ship should be a middling combatant, but not near to the level of anything from Fallen spire, except maybe a destroyer when you fully evolve it. Like the AI hybrid, it gets stronger the longer you can keep one alive. What should make it good is its support abilities. Armour and attack buffs, deploying neinzul fleet ships, a force field, repair capability as a high-end module, possibly a mobile regen chamber function in a high-end module. Basically a force multiplier. The fleetships to go with it, well obviously all the free nienzul ships can support existing nienzul fleet ships. They also bring free neinzul versions of the triangle ships. Each has only half the cap, is cheaper and a bit squishier, but faster. They only build at the hive or human hybrid ship. First idea, feel free to tear it to shreds. The implementation proposal probably sucks. I just wanted to put the notion of a player alliance with remaining free neinzul out there. | ||||

I like the basic idea, but I don't like the recover/expand part. Maybe simply have the ship be your hybrid hive, instead of letting you build one. Its ships (1/2-cap fast triangles, produced by the hive) should have to stay in the same system as the hive, so if you want to use the extra ships, you have to risk its death. It's stats should be somewhere between a normal hive and a super hybrid. It gains experience only when it actually fights, building up to super-hybrid levels. It's escort fleet grows as it gains experience, ending at mkIII of the 1/2 cap fast ships. The initial rescue spawns something like four super hybrids to kill it. Once it is captured, using it and its fleet causes the AI to instantly spawn more super hybrids, but it and its fleet could be build up to formidable levels, if it survives all the necessary skirmishes for it to gain xp. |

Welp, I guess Ancient Shadows killed this, given that it implements something similar as part of the core feature. |

Apparantly I am prescient. Actually, I think AS makes it more likely, as they have maturation code in place for player units already. |
