Summary0000910: Cutlass unit doesn't travel in an intercept path when attacking
DescriptionI'm not sure how necessary this is to change but if I have a group of vorticular cutlasses and I'm attacking a moving enemy target, the cutlasses don't update their trajectories toward the target enough and end up behind the target following it. This is particularly annoying when the target is faster than the cutlasses. If the cutlasses actually intercepted a faster moving target than I could at least damage it a bit before it got away.

I'd really like to see this behavior on all ships myself. Besides, I'd assume it's easier to change it for all rather than only changing it for one ship ;)

Keep in mind the performance issues. Alot of the "smart unit AI" features that have been suggested have been rejected not because of how hard it is to implement, but rather how much CPU this intelligent behavior would use up. Even something as simple as linear extrapolation of position can start taking up a ton of CPU time when applied to hundreds of units.

Precisely. And it relates to balance: if we made the cutlasses better, we'd just have to nerf them to get the same balance, etc. But at any rate, they're not much of an intercept force, they're more raiders or infantrymen. Their speed is for close combat, not long-range interceptions, for many of the reasons you noted here.

If you are willing to micromanage, you can always give them a move order ahead of the target units. This way you manually intercept units. I know it is a pain, but its either a pain to the CPU or to you, and the CPU is under enough stress as it is. :)
