Summary | 0008934: AI Nuclear Core post
Description | For the AI Homeworld only, perhaps one of the deadly ones like the Core Raid Engine. Ai Nuclear Core Post: When destroyed lets off a nuclear command style explosion on the planet and all adjacent planets, destroying all non-core mobile ships on those planets, leaving the planets and their resources intact.

AKA: Raid Starship Is only? Interesting idea, I'll give it that. What's to stop me from going into the homeworld and simply blowing the snort out of it first, backing off most of my troops except say 10/20 throwaway ships, and then blowing it, then coming back in? It's a very cheesable guardpost. |
|
Since it affects all the adjacent planets as well you would have to retreat quite far back which might mean you would have to tackle this guardpost differently, make sure you have a few border planets neutered so you can retreat. Easy to cheese yes, but makes you think tactically how to get around it. Just depends on if it would be fun to deal with. Or if you want to make it evil make it act as a blackhole generator at the same time ;) |
|
@GUDare Well, it wouldn't really help you with homeworlds very much. Almost everything on homeworlds is Mk. V, and Mk. V stuff has an immunity to nukes. ;) It could help with the AI core planets though, and other Mk. IV planets. |

What I'm personally thinking is that you grab yourself a nice little asteroid 2-3 planets out, and transport-raid it. FOOM. Now, where were we? Since Core and HW get MK Vs, you're right Techsy, you can't remove the enemies that way, though it would be a bloody FUNNY way to remove the Raid Engine result you spawned. As to retreating far away, it's merely 2 planets. By the time you're thumping homeworlds 2 planets worth of travel (particularly since usually you've crushed one of the core worlds enroute) is just time, at most 2 minutes or so. Time for one series of reinforcements at most. I'm not sure it should be added to the Brutal pile. Sounds like a fun post to have to argue with, however, on further thought. In particular it under a FF, however... now, THAT's a Brutal post... but not necessarily any worse than the Heavy Beam Core Post, which has ended entire fleets of mine. Of course, if we want a new Brutal post, EMP Guardpost that pulses on detection of enemy ships with a 30 second burst every minute. Errr... wait, noone heard me say that, right? |
