Summary0008889: Provide a way to unlock "Ocean Buoy range +1"
DescriptionBy performing a dangerous feat in an Ocean or Ocean Shallows tile, you can unlock:

* Ocean Buoy range +1

Now, when you're short on buoys, you can decide whether to buy/farm more, or make your existing buoys more powerful.

Are you thinking that these would have to be unlocked once per continent - or would once unlock them permanently?

Would these replace regular ocean buoys, or be a more expensive / harder to find variant?

I'm thinking it would be a permanent unlock that upgrades all your buoys.

I'm a little iffy about this being free once unlocked. I'd prefer to see some sort of cost to it when you use it; maybe some way to improve ocean buoys once built to give all ocean buoys within 6 tiles the +1 range. (I'm thinking it would upgrade to something like an offshore platform or lighthouse.) The actual upgrade mission I'm thinking could be a mission with the ocean buoy, and holding off enemies attacking the buoy while it gets improved for a certain time limit (with platforms and so on attached to the buoy so you can stay "on" it even when under it to defend against monsters swimming up from beneath.)

All of these ideas could work, but I like the lighthouse or offshore platform idea.

I don't think there needs to be a mission to place lighthouses (it doesn't seem like that important of a building) - at the very least, not immediately; a mission could always be added later by the devs, if it seemed like a good addition. (The specific mission suggestion of defending the building while it got built seems cool, though.)

Instead, maybe it could just be a rather rare, or kinda-expensive building. I think it shouldn't be cost-effective if you're just placing one buoy, but it's the kind of building that's nice to have / saves you shards if you're going to be placing a whole lot of buoys.

Though if that's implemented, that raises the definite possibility of implementing other "buildings that improve other buildings" (like the condenser & echelon mirrors in Alpha Centauri - see http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Sid_Meier%27s_Alpha_Centauri/Terraforming#Condenser). For example, a 'Farm Nexus' that produces no food, but improves the food output of nearby farms by another +2.
