Summary | 0008868: Secret Missions refuse to time out and will count down into negative time
Description | *So evidently restarting the game, at least after a computer restart anyway, fixes this bug. I restarted the game once or twice yesterday but I can't remember for sure if the bugged secret missions persisted or not, though I was sure they were at the time so I may have checked them again. I'll post here again if the new Secret missions, that may have replaced the timed-out ones, fail to timeout again. Details: I have a string of Secret Mission spawns I check in a Lava Flat just above my village on continent 4 and I noticed this weekend that missions I passed over were going into negative time,(ex. -0:-21), instead of timing out like they are supposed to do. I completed 2-3 Secret Rescue Missions that were in negative time just fine but the normal Secret Missions, which I left alone, were still counting away when I left the game for the day. However when I started up the game today to double-check for this bug report all secret missions available had fresh timers. I'm not sure if they were the same missions that went into overtime, only with new timers, or not though.

Had you left the region in question and then come back when the timer was negative before you left? Missions aren't supposed to ever expire if you are in their region, which is why I ask. |
Problem solved, I did a long chain of mystery puzzles in that region and checked the secret mission spawns a couple times whenever I wanted a break. The secret rescue missions were done on one of those breaks and since my health was still good after doing them I went back to solving puzzles. I ended my session while still in the region a couple of times during that stretch but I left the region at the end of the day which would explain why all of the missions are fresh ones now. |
Note that this poses a possible problem -- if a mission is too hard for you to do, especially a Journey to Perfection, then this mission will "sticky" itself for all eternity and that area will be unavailable for use for anything else until the mission is cleared, which I think you can only do by completing the mission... We had this problem and it took us around what seemed like 100 tries to finally get the JtP done. My friends were pretty mad and logged off immediately after. We needed to complete the mission as there was no where else to put the Wind Shelter to get to the next Lieutenant. |
As long as you leave the region of the mission, it expires. |
You mean the continent? Since I'm talking about missions that have stickied on our server for (real time) days until I painstakingly went into each region and cleared them out. I noticed that the spell they offered was even upgraded a tier when a Lieutenant was defeated, but the spell modifier and type of mission stayed exactly the same. We have no sticky missions right now as I make sure I manually clear them out. They also survived a server restart, so restarting doesn't fix it...but as the "server" indicates, this is MP. |
I mean region. Is there someone in the regions oin question? |
Nope. Like I said, they were abandoned by everyone for days. So long their timer was at something like -48:-22:-16 I can upload my world files if you think that'll help, but like I said these "sticky missions" are long gone (after I manually completed them to clear them) |
For 1.201: * Fixed a bug where mission expiration timers would roll into negative numbers. ** Thanks to wyvern83 for reporting. I did that while testing the expiration mechanic, but I can't get it to do anything I don't expect: it hits zero while I'm standing there and doesn't expire, but as soon as I leave the region and come back that mission is gone. " Note that this poses a possible problem -- if a mission is too hard for you to do, especially a Journey to Perfection, then this mission will "sticky" itself for all eternity and that area will be unavailable for use for anything else until the mission is cleared, which I think you can only do by completing the mission... We needed to complete the mission as there was no where else to put the Wind Shelter to get to the next Lieutenant. " I don't understand: was the presence of a secret mission blocking you from placing a wind shelter on the region? |
Sorry, I was talking about *regular* missions, not secret missions. I didn't make that clear. |
@Matthew Carras That might be worth opening a new issue, like this one, but for normal missions. Make sure to relate it to this issue. |
Yeah, I'll wait on making a new issue, as I can't seem to reproduce it by myself. If I encounter it again I'll make a new issue. |
