Summary | 0008627: Allow rebinding of mouse buttons to (use ability in slot) commands
Description | When attempting to bind a mouse button to a (use ability in slot X) command, the game says "mouse buttons cannot be bound to this, as the result is never useful behaviour". The problem is, it *is* useful behaviour. For example, what I would like to do is leave left/right/middle bound to (selected ability), (selected ability + 1), and (selected ability + 2), but rebind mouse4 and mouse5 (which are the side buttons on my mouse) to (use ability in slot 9) and (use ability in slot 10) - thus giving me two abilities that the side buttons are *always* bound to, allowing me to use (say) Ride The Lightning and Lesser Teleport on the fly at an time, no matter what my currently selected ability is. At present, in order to do this, I need to use an external tool to rebind some of my mouse buttons to look like keystrokes instead, and then bind those. (I realize that you *can* bind mouse buttons to some things like "Use Ability: Platform" successfully. However, this is only possible for abilities explicitly listed in the controls screen.)

Can't you just move those spells to slots 4 and 5? |
Indeed, that's what I do, and it's working fine here. |
I can, and doing so works great right up until the point I change what spell I have selected. Now the mouse buttons aren't triggering abilities 1-5, but 6-10. Or 9-3. Or 12-16. My underlying goal here is to have that button *always do the same thing*, while still being able to change what spell I have selected to adapt to what I'm fighting. The feature is already present for a limited set of abilities; what I want is something I can use for *any* ability. This could also be accomplished by adding a binding for (use ability: X) for every ability in the game to the options screen, but removing the restriction on what you can bind mouse buttons to seems like an easier approach. |
Oh I see. You want some mouse buttons to shift with the current selection, but other mouse buttons to not shift with the current selection. Yea, I could see uses for that. |
If you want this behavior, you can directly edit the key bindings file. There might be some graphical issues with the tip text, but otherwise it will work just fine. |
I support an expansion of the skill/items you are directly able to bind to mouse buttons and the keyboard directly instead of by skill slot. |
