Summary | 0008464: Enhance spells as they go up in tiers
Description | I'd like to see upgrading spells have more of a meaning when it comes to their effects. What I had in mind was this. Keep the existing tier system that you have but at tiers 3 and 5 change the spell slightly. and what I mean by that is, say at tier 3, instead of fire one projectile fire 2, and a tier 5 fire 3. With the Melee spells you could double the length at tier 3 and then triple it at tier 5.

I think the spell system needs a rebalance of special effects and damage values, cooldowns, projectile speeds etc. This should be more related to the spell color. The special upgrades of the spells that you suggest should be related to the spell color, too. And I think the effects should be at tier 4 and 5 because the enemies gain additional projectiles at tier 4 and 5. |

Unless the spell is already multi-shot, I wouldn't want extra projectiles at higher tiers. Aside from it being a /massive/ damage spike, it'd also be rather fiddly deciding on paths for the extra projectiles. (Same path is pretty much just a double damage modifier, spreading the paths out a little means all aiming isn't really very necessary any more, and spreading the paths out a lot is just pointless a lot of the time.) (Enemies get extra projectiles because their attacks aren't very accurate anyway, so having extra projectiles is a decent way to increase difficulty against a very mobile and unpredictable foe, where as you don't have that problem as the enemies tend to move in predictable ways and so your accuracy is much higher.) However, improving riders (where the spell has them) along with damage isn't such a bad thing. I'd be vary of lowering cooldowns though, since it then makes high mana more and more powerful as tiers get higher and higher (since you can still sustain fire then). Increasing projectile speeds is a worthwhile maybe for some spells, though I'd want to see it only if there isn't any other riders to be boosted. |

Maybe some spells get some special effects at higher tiers, like burn or slow the enemy, or some other fancy debuff mechanic. |

This has been discussed in depth in the past, I believe in mantis but also in the forums. My detailed thoughts are there, but the short version is that I'm against it. I'm all for new spells -- and those are coming. And the ability to customize spells, via enchants. But just making every spell 5x more complex for us to create, and for you guys to use, strikes me as a really bad thing. |

@x4000 Not 5x, but 3x, as this issue only has this change at tiers 3 and 5. And it could be limited to a subset of spells. But yea, your concern is still valid. Plus, that enchant modifying spells in some way idea seems like a much more flexible and awesome idea too. I would support that. |

"Plus, that enchant modifying spells in some way idea seems like a much more flexible and awesome idea too. I would support that." You mean, the system we already have? ;) |
|
Yes, but I meant even further expansions of the system (like a "fire spells inflict X rating of burn damage" enchant, or something along those lines, of course some enemies being immune to burn over time damage) |
|
Right -- ideas of that sort would be great suggestions for mantis tickets. |
