Summary | 0008370: Multiplayer PvP - Continental divide
Description | This is a VERY large suggestion, but one I think is worth taking the time to write out. Now this is definitely a bloat feature, but would make for a unique multiplayer mode that would be unique to AVWW. The short story is: Multiple player factions fighting for control of a continent. Story-wise this could be tied in to the fact that such a thing is hinted at when you defeat an overlord. I think, as a start, it would be prudent to test things out on a one faction vs. one faction basis, but eventually scale it up so players can create and recruit to as many factions as they want. A whole diplomatic system perhaps. But perhaps such a thing would be more hindrance than anything else... But I'm getting ahead of myself. World generation would be slightly different from what it is normally. Map cells should be a lot smaller, maybe capping out at around 4-6 surface map cells per tile, maybe even smaller. This would keep things from being 'Ghost town' like. Likewise for cave levels. As for the various tiles themselves, a good idea, I think, would be to take a page from A.I. Wars, in that certain tiles are more valuable than others. Points of strategic importance, points of resources (For spells, enchantments, etc.), and bases of power (Settlements.). The exact details of what these provide can be a matter of debate for a later time, but for now I'm trying to outline the mode in general. (Just starting out with 1v1 factions, the obvious 'choose team' thing applies, but eventually:) When a map continent is created, players are given a moment to decide factions, faction leaders can be a bit more powerful than the standard glyphbearers. (The 'overlords' of the faction if you will.) Once factions are sorted out, settlements are randomly placed based upon how many factions there are. These are the factions home bases, and the ultimate goal of the other factions. The first phase would be the land grab. People spread out and race to the end of the map tile to claim it for their faction. Only tiles connected to the settlement and tiles that are claimed can be claimed, giving logical and clear 'front lines' and faction borders. Skirmishes will likely break out for territory, when two players engage in conflict, it can show up in the log feed for others to see and possibly reenforce, or maybe only available to the faction leader, who can send out orders to where to re-enforce. Second phase comes when all the land has been claimed, and actual war takes root. Scrolls can be used to create 'boss towers' that invaders need to climb before they can claim land (Rather than just running to the end of the map). The idea being that resources and strategic holdings become quite important here, as resources will allow your faction to set up defenses, or mount more efficient attacks. (Via Buffs or A.I. armies to assist your glyphbearers.) The final phase comes when the weak have been culled and only two factions are left. Maybe lesser factions have been annexed and all that are left are the juggernaut factions, the ones destined to unify the land. Spell tiers are likely maxed, resources are high, and battles immense and meaningful, until one emerges victorious. Once a factions settlement has been claimed, their faction dissolves and is defeated. At the end, scores are shown for the faction, notable glyphbearers get their moment of fame highlighting accomplishments, and a new continent is created, starting the whole thing over again. Now, obviously a lot of things can be done with this, and a lot of things already in AVWW can be utilized, most notably power scrolls. Honestly I think something like this can be quite a lot of fun, and be truly unique to AVWW.

Also, the overworld theme for this mode should totally be the intro mission theme. Love that song. :3 |

To be honest, I don't think there is that much of a Multi-player base right now to bother with this kind of thing. |
