Summary | 0008325: Second continent generated very little variety | ||||
Description | I just reached my second continent. It generated ice, lava, junkyards, the deep, and evergreen. There's one desert chunk with the Overlord on it. One grassland chunk. In a game of endless possibilities, I feel limited to the point where I want to start a new world in lieu of grinding 8-14 hours to get past this continent. | ||||

Each region type is pretty massive, though; but I hear what you're saying. |

Again, it would be nice to have the continent generator ensure that at least N non-lieutenant, non-overlord tiles of each region type eligible for that continent are guaranteed to be spawned. (For some yet to be determined N, but 2 or 3 seems reasonable) |

I feel like I'm whining to an extent, but one of the things I love about this game is the massive variety of areas to explore. I just found it disappointing to reach the second continent and find fewer area types to explore than before (excepting of course the appearance of the deep and lava) |

Yep, I thought about it slightly more and agreed. Just finished this: * Updated the continent-seeding logic so that a minimum number of region tiles of each type is now maintained. For most region types this number is 5, but for many of the middle-sized regions it's 14, and for some of the larger ones it's 20. ** This helps to insure that you're never getting just a single tile of some particular region that you need, for instance. However, sub-region-types like grasslands-with-groves might still be completely absent or in very short supply. ** This also has a side effect of making more interesting region layouts right on the first continent and beyond, with more islands and peninsulas and bays and such. ** This won't help existing continents, since they have already been generated, but it will affect new continents generated even in existing worlds. |

As an aside, you can restart in 1.041 with an Expert Start if you prefer; that way you're still on continent 2 but with the better seeding logic. These continents are much cooler all of a sudden! |
