Summary | 0008287: Continent-crossers should lose their magical profession
Description | A lumbermancer who arrives on a new continent should stop being a lumbermancer. * Remove the incentive to cross continents with someone who has a profession that is useful early on. * Nerf the trick where you shuttle a lumbermancer, then a stonebinder, then an apothekineticist. * Consistent with the concept that magic cannot cross continents (unlike supplies and people). The new profession could be "Wanderer", "Explorer", or "Retired Forgician".

Thanks! * A new profession has been added: Adventuring. ** All player characters are considerd Adventuerers, and now glyph transplant scrolls include the following additional warning: ** Note that the character you are switching to have their profession permanently changed to Adventurer, so they will no longer be able to use guardian power scrolls (via one of the normal magical professions). ** This prevents a number of exploity ways of getting new NPCs of a certain profession on a given continent. |
This also introduces the opportunity for random online players to troll servers by just switching to every NPC, making them useless for allowing guardian powers, and generally making progressing a huge pain in the butt. Unless there is a change character permission that the server admin can set already in place, in which case that would cover this. |
Also, is the warning suppressed when switching to an NPC that is already an Adventurer, as there is nothing to lose in that case? |
There isn't actually a popup for this, it just says it in the description text. In terms of trolling servers, that was already possible simply by switching to those characters with needed professions and then killing them. I'm not sure if we put in an anti-griefing permission for that yet or not, will check. Incidentally, this fix also fixes some issues with players killing their own character and then using glyph transfer to get a profession that they needed without doing any missions. |

From Keith: The glyph transplant permission was one of the first ones added |
