Do you have any other log files in the game's directory or the RuntimeData subdirectory? Were any of these freezes on the latest beta version (3.900)? We fixed something in that version that was causing some fairly serious issues on the mac. Thanks :) |

I updated right before I started playing today, and reported right after it happened, so that sample is from 3.9. I also had one happen since then, but I was in full-screen mode so I couldn’t diagnose. This could be unrelated, however: the other time it happend, I was experiencing a visual glitch when I would hold Z to check the attack range, and a planet graphic was popping in in the background. When I was zoomed out though, it displayed only as a blurry artefact. I think it hung either when I pressed Z or alt. |

From the graphical troubles you're reporting, it sounds like you might need an updated driver. Can you check and see if there are any related updates for your OS? |

Thanks for those, they help. The ErrorsReportedByEngine one shows that the pthread_getschedparam error is still happening, and the AIThread one is also interesting. Chris, I've periodically seen these UnitData null errors in AIErrors.txt during development, but they always seemed transient and related to when I had just made code changes, etc. This one is on the WormholeCommandPost, but I've seen them on bunches of different types. The sample in this case doesn't really tell us anything, unfortunately. Nothing seems particularly out of kilter from there. But, the other error log files are more instructive, to be sure. |

The sample's call stack refers to symbols from the underlying engine, not from our code, because all our code runs on the embedded mono runtime. It's still useful, but it doesn't tell us where the problem is in our code. But it's quite likely that the seg fault referred to in the call stack (if I'm reading it right) is from the null-reference exception in the AIErrors.txt. At least, that's my guess. Did that crash happen immediately upon starting the program, starting a game, or in the middle of play? From what you've said I think it's "middle of play", but want to make sure. Due to how unit data is sync'd over the to the AI thread it's possible that it didn't happen until later, though given the nature of how that particular unit (WormholeCommandPost, i.e. Wormhole Guard Post) is seeded, it seems that it would be one of the first units to be sync'd over. |

Yeah, middle of play. I *think* in every case the game had been in progress for a fair while before the freeze. |

That is strange, this is the sort of bug that _should_ only happen on the first sync of a unit of that type for that player. For a lark, you could test starting a new game, building a few ships, flying through the nearest wormhole, and shooting the wormhole guard post ;) That would force a sync, though I think it has to sync them all at the beginning anyway. |

It does have to sync them all at the start, yeah. I've started up a new game on my mac, with hybrids on and running 3.900, and am just letting it run to see how long it goes. I'll cut it off at 3 hours probably if it keeps working that long (my guys are in FRD mode protecting the wormhole). |

I have yet to be able to reproduce this, though, so I don't know if there's something specific on some people's macs, or what. But the fact that four people have seen this sort of thing means its not super isolated, whatever it is. |

Hmmm, that is interesting, but it's good to know it's the same every time. Was there anything particular of note going on? What were you doing at the time? If you can close it, then look for the /Users/YourUserName/xx/Library/Logs/Unity/player.log and upload that, that would be potentially very helpful. That's about it for now, beyond that we just need to do some hunting in this code and see if we can figure out what's causing it... |

Like I said, it was paused, so I wasn’t doing anything (in theory). Prior to pausing it I had a bunch (~1k) of ships at the AI home planet, all instructed to attack a single guard post. The player.log is 1.7G, do you need the whole thing? |

Can you try zipping it in some way? The way those log files are, when they get that big they'll compress really small. |

1.7 GIGABYTES? Are you sure not MB? That is insanely too large. If you can just crop out anything that seems hugely duplicative to get the file size down, that would be helpful. But, man, that's way too big. |

The AIErrors issue seems to be still present. I had the autosave interval set to 1 minute and I was going to upload the save prior to a freeze, but the last few saves are zero bytes :/ |

Coming in 4.023: * If the dreaded pthread_getschedparam error is encountered on OSX, normally this means a crash is imminent within 30 seconds or so if the player does not disable their sound first. ** We've been attempting many things to solve this problem, and still will be hunting for it, but as a temporary salve we've now made it so that when this error is encountered it will AUTOMATICALLY disable the sound for the player and shows them a message advising them to save their game and restart the program asap. ** It also now logs some extra information about the state of their program to hopefully aid in actually fixing the root cause of this. ** It also stops further images, music, and similar from being loaded, as they could also trigger the same crash and the player really needs to restart, anyway. |
