Summary | 0008020: Enhancement for Time of Magic characters
Description | I just thought I'd throw this idea out there. Perhaps the Time of Magic era characters could redirect a portion of their incoming damage to their mana pool. So if they take damage, they'd have a passive that took like 1/3 of that damage and redirected it, taking it out of their current mana pool.

That's a cool idea, but wouldn't that kind of defeat the purpose of their having high mana? That's a tricky one. |
They're already arguably the most powerful character type in the game due to Mana. Not sure if they need this big of a boost... |
It sounds a bit too powerful - after all, mana regenerates while health doesn't. Introducing this would result in a (milder) form of the problems with shields. My understanding of Time Of Magic NPC's is that they should really be glass cannons; to that end, it makes more sense to do it the other way around (where they can spend health as though it were mana if they haven't got enough - this would probably need to have a conversion rate so you can't spam your whole health bar away before you notice you're using health.) |
Perhaps it could use some tweaking, but do keep in mind the redirection wouldn't allow them to be extremely tanky, with their naturally low health, it just make things hurt a little less but still cost them something. It promotes dodging attacks if at all possible. Also, they'ed die before taking enough damage to completely deplete their mana bar. |
It does, however, effectively give them an additional 50% health, which is way too powerful for an already powerful Age. (The mana loss really won't do much, given the sheer amount of mana they already have.) |
Couldn't it work as a normal enchant? At least if it somehow was less effective with already high health. Also the conversion rate probably could be something like at least 3-10 mana for every health since 1:1 doesn't sound like much. And wouldn't it be 33% more health instead of 50%? |
Nope. If 33% of damage goes to mana instead of health, it means you only take 20 damage out of every 30; as such, if you had 60 hp you'll take 3 hits instead of 2 -> +50% health. An enchant with a hefty hp to mana ratio could work, though; the scaling could then apply to the amount transferred to mana. |
What about if the bonus for Time of Magic characters is: no 12 second time limit on shield spells? It would be really convinient for em, since I imagine they would be using the spell quite a bit, and it wouldn't nessisarily make them that much more powerful either (since they are already quite strong) |
