Summary | 0007999: Idea For Map Generation Settings - Limited Survivors
Description | Hi, As per thread: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,10755.0.html I have some ideas for additional settings that could be added for players to choose when creating a new game world. ------------------------------------ Limited Survivors: It gives the player a limited number of survivors to start with, and if all of them die, then game over. This idea can also be expanded to work on a per settlement basis, but it will add a greater deal of complexity to the gameplay. If it were to work on a per-settlement basis: Lets say continent 1 starts with a pool of 6 survivors, so if they all die game over. But going over to a new continent, the game would spawn say 1-4 survivors in that new settlement. From this point on in the game if a settlement loses all its survivors it would be considered 'abandoned'. You then respawn in settlements that still have survivors left, and you can then restore 'abandoned' settlements (lets say at a cost of 25,000 CS), granting you the ability to re-enter the settlement with said settlement having 1-4 new survivors in it.

Game Over? Seems a bit drastic to me. However, the idea besides that is quite interesting...as long as these don't stretch into the vital ones like Lumbermancer. People we don't care about, sure. Would add some danger to the game, sure, but don't really know if i'd want it. -is also wondering why Nanostrike opposes it. |

Well it's meant to be a toggle for those looking for a harder/more roguelike experience. Looking at the forums I see that there's currently a discussion regarding perma-death. Still, the simple addition of giving players the option to play with a limited character pool goes a long way towards keeping both camps happy. The 'per-settlement' thing was just me expanding on that simple idea, but I can imagine it taking a while to implement. tl;dr: 'limited character pool' toggle for those who want perma-death to have a real effect on their game world. A cumulative pool seems simple enough to implement at this time. |

With how often you die in this game, it's really just not feasable, IMO. And it'd result in going on a ton of rescue missions over and over again. All-in-all, having limited characters really works against the "You are going to die" aspect of the permadeath in this game. |

As mentioned earlier on, this toggle is meant for those that looking for a more roguelike experience. And it's going to be just that, a toggle. I'm not suggesting that this be a mandatory change. |
