Summary0007846: For future: Let's go upwards! (floating islands)
DescriptionWe have two acrobatic spells (Ride the lightning, Lightning Rocket), and as the reality shattered, there can be floating islands with buildings which were formerly on firm ground. So, addition of rows of floating islands leading upwards like rows of caverns leading downwards would have little problems, lots of excitement. Players would be even able to reach ice pirates warships and destroy or capture them.

My idea about this is: simply reaching the top of the room send players safely on one of the islands in upper room, reaching the bottom do the same, just to the lower room. If players were too far from rows of islands horizontally, they just fall to the surface. Without appropriate spells, they die.
Islands have buildings from possibly different type of regions from ones below. There players are granted to find secret missions, one per a building.

It may be silly, but the idea just came to my head, looked interesting, so I wanted to take note of it.

I can see this being not too difficult to do...in theory. Perhaps a special type of tile/area is created, which instead of having the horizontal exits, has them vertically: Down will take you "back" a screen, up advances it. The issues being 1, if AVWW can handle mixing border exits up, and 2, how to make player/monster spawns that prevent them instantly dying/going splat.

Another idea of how it could work in a limited capacity: Assault the Patrol mission type! Ice Patrol ship squares could have this available, either always or randomly seeded as a world mission. It would look a lot like "Build Shelter" missions (Mission area acts more like a normal tile, with the multiple regions/screens), but play out more like lava escape minus the lava? The base idea is solid.
The reward, of course, would be that the Ice Patrol needs to regroup/repair/reform before they can bombard you: This could be always, on a mission timer ("1:00:00 before Ice Patrol is active again"), or something new that you think up.

Edit: Typos, syntax fix. Missed one.

I'm iffy about instant death, espescially since this game has enemies with knockback, so I wouldn't want falling off = instant death. It might be better to just deal a chunk of damage and return the player to the start of the chunk.

Rather than connecting the two areas, it might be easier to have an "entrance" (ladder up, etc.) similar to cave entrances now. Going down would be trickier, though if using auto-return to start of chunk when falling off too far, then the same entrances could be used for permanent movement. Entrances to go up would only spawn on "high point", to make it so you'd have difficulties getting up to them without jump enhancement (or tons of crates).

I'd also want Ice Pirates gone permanently if taken out, not just cleared for a little while. There's normally four or so on each continent, so each one would each need it's own mission and so would still be fairly involved.

About ice pirates, I want them gone for good at some point, but not cheaply, like simply by going up enough to reach them. So, I think it's cool if reaching them is always possible, but only with guardian power missions similar to wind shelter missions, players can destroy a ship. Outside of those missions, clearing them out will deactivate them for certain amount of time, which will make JtP missions on ground in regions nearby a lot easier without tweaks such as their unnatural cease-fire.

These ideas of climbing floating land to get to the Pirates makes me think of this from 5:30

It also reminds me of the hidden islands that floated in Terraria.

The problem with differentiating between time investment (by climbing high enough) and the use of guardian scrolls, though, is that the guardian scrolls can be acquired via aforementioned time investment. Unless the Remove Ice Pirates guardian scrolls are annoyingly rare, most people will spend the time getting the scroll instead of just suppressing them.

I was thinking that in an Ice Pirates area, the floating island area would have a secret mission somewhere hidden away to clear out the Ice Pirates, so it would be a similar thing, just requiring finding the mission and doing it rather than casting a scroll. I'd suggest making it so that it's always a surface secret mission, since then you're more likely to need to fight (or sneak) your way to it.
