Summary | 0007425: Underwater exploration is too troublesome at the moment due to platforms/crates floating. We need something better!
Description | I mentioned this in a brainstorming section of the forums as well, but going underwater in AVWW right now is essentially a waste of your platform items, as your crates and platforms will float up, meaning you'll have to use a new one to get out of a deep pool of water every time you go down there. What I think we need are some 'heavy' versions of Platforms/Crates that are damage resistant, but also do not float in water. IE, a metal platform that sticks to background walls, and stays where it is underwater instead of floating up. Similarly, metal crates that sink in water instead of floating upward. this would make it a lot easier to move around in the Ocean Shallows, and Oceans in general. Obviously, these would be additions, not replacements. The wooden platforms/crates do have their uses underwater at times, but sometimes you just want to be able to make an easy way to get out that doesn't require you to make a new crate/platform every single time!

Make the "seize" spell castable on player platforms and crates. Mission accomplished. |
i like the metal items idea. Seize is useful, but it makes the object vulnerable to enemy attacks. Obviously, metal crates would have to be attackable, but platforms need to be pass-through for the player. |
Good point... but as of right now it doesn't even work on those objects so the point is moot. |
I'd like a flippers enchant that allows you to swim. |
I think the problem with flippers is that Underwater areas would then feel like the Umbra Vortexes. The developers specifically mentioned wanting to avoid making underwater feel like an alternate form of flight. Currently, you have slower movement and slightly floatier jumping, which is fine and all. The issue is, again, the fact it feels like a chore/waste of resources to explore the ocean when your platforms will always end up floating up in the end. If I'm going to be re-exploring an old area (Something I do constantly!), I want my platforms to be something permanent to make returning that much less of a hassle. |
