Summary0007366: Make melee viable
DescriptionRight now long-range spells dominate the game. Melee spells are a huge risk because all enemies have melee damage, and because long range gives you time to dodge projectiles.

Here are some suggestions to make melee a better option:

- Make most enemies not have melee damage. It makes sense for some enemies to have melee damage, but not for others. Bats clearly should have melee damage, and lightning espers probably should too, as well as the front side of rhinos and other massive things like the urban crawler. But it doesn't make sense for other types of enemies, such as water espers etc. It even doesn't make sense for skelebots except when they actually hit you. This change would make melee MUCH more viable.

- Add enemies that encourage melee. For example:
- Enemies that raise shields, where to damage the enemy you have to be within a certain range.
- Enemies that have innards that are exposed when you're close but not when you're far (similar idea)
- Enemies that are invisible unless you're close to them (where they try to hit you).
- Enemies that can only hurt you when you're far. For example, they fire missiles that need to lock on to you to be of any use, or they have a beam weapon that only gets big and strong at the furthest end.

The thing is, melee is viable, if you are really really good. Kinda like using the knife in CounterStrike. We're not really inclined to change that right now because to make it any other way right now would make it really easy to cheese.

Melee's viable, yes, but it seems to only be that way with specific spells, as I mentioned in my own thoughts on melee needing some rebalance.

Miasma Whip seems to be the current staple for any and all melee setups, due to its well balanced cost, damage, and reach.

The bigger issue with melee is the fact some spells just feel rather inferior or useless compared to others. For example, Flame Touch, you practically have to be touching your enemies to connect with this, whereas Miasma Whip and Leafy Whip will leave you with some breathing room, and offer comparable (if not better at times) DPS. Other melee spells seem to be a bit too situational, like Ice Cross. Looks cool, nice if you have enemies you can hit with it, but it still feels a bit weak for its slow casting speed.

There is some viability to melee, but it seems like there's little incentive to go beyond the tried and true Whip spells, which offer more than the melee spells with absolutely no reach of any kind.

Personally, I dunno about some of the changes suggested, but I do think melee could benefit from a bit of a rebalancing to make some of the lesser spells more desirable. I've tried using other spells, but I always find myself going back to Leafy Whip and Miasma Whip when it comes to my close combat magic.

Dunno if you consider this melee, but my Right Click spell *MUST BE* Leafy Whip or Miasma Whip. Preference for Leafy Whip, that IMO is the best Earth attack.

Also, I noted that Whips and Melee in general aren't affected by Long Range cooldown, so there's simply no reason not to have melee in right click to take a second fast attack versus a monster that survived the first long ranged attack and is closing in =']
