Summary | 0007358: Animation Work!
Description | In 2D side-scrollers, perhaps animations are the least important things (depending on how you look at it) but I feel like they're important to AT LEAST be varied. To give every NPC and playable character more varied and dynamic animations seems like it'd be a massive under-taking, but I personally think it's important and significant for making battles becoming more exciting and meaningful. I was actually really turned off by AI Wars because of this same exact reason. I could live with low-res details but animations just seem killer these days. But as far as eye-candy is concerned, I think it would allow players to become more immersed in your world, and that's a good thing.

AI War had a nostalgia bonus by using the Tyrian sprites (which got released to the public and now pop up in various games) and was overall more abstract so it could get away with less natural looking stuff but yeah, AVWW is trying to show a realistic scene which requires more movement. |
