Summary | 0007351: Server side settings for spell ranges
Description | After the hubub about spell ranges I started thinking: why not have a (server side) user setting so people can configure it the way they prefer? Perhaps sliders or just options the way difficulty is chosen. Offer two settings: Player spell ranges: short, normal, long, etc. Monster spell ranges: short, normal, long, etc. (or just one global setting that affects both player spells and monster spells) The downside would be more divergent server mechanics, the game would behave rather differently depending on what server you connect to.

I really don't think that's a good ideal because of course the tendency is to pick super long ranges for player spells and super short ones for enemies. Then the game quickly becomes too easy and exploits are rampant against enemies, and you've just shot yourself in the foot from having any enjoyment out of it. Not that I'm trying to squash the ability for people to express personality and play the way they want, but when it comes to something that is legitimately exploitative (as being able to hit the enemy from way out of range inevitably is), that's something I really think shouldn't be a server option. |
