Summary0000735: Mark V Guardians on Mark I World?
DescriptionStarted game (with bugged ship selection) and went to attack the world separating the two homes and ran into at least two, possibly 8, Mark 5 guardians. The Mk5 Flak Guardian annihilated three whole fleets (three players with a post-start joiner).

to clarify - mk1 worlds are ONLY directly adjacent to your home system - is this what was happening?
all other worlds are mk2, unless mk3+ is stated.

It was a Mk1 world adjacent to both homeworlds, yes (it was the only Mk1, actually). Other adjacent planets were Mk3 or Mk4.

Edit: 3 of the 4 adjacent planets were Mk1, the fourth was Mk4. Attaching a save.

I cant particularly imagine what mk5 guardians are doing that close to players

AIs were a One-way doormaster and a Speed Racer.

And save is coming WHEN I CAN FIDN IT. >:(
Found it. Game installed to the wrong drive when I had an issue earlier. Whoops.

Anyway, we killed the guardians, murdered the system, and quit because we basically couldn't do anything, due to the way armor works (our host started with electric shuttles when he wanted teleporting battlestations and I got weasels and not Armors). One of the Mk5 guardians killed the orbital mass driver I built too.

Were there any error messages associated with this game start? I have a feeling that the lobby just had an unhandled exception, and these are secondary issues.

Okay, there doesn't seem to be any problem here. I don't think you ran into any mark V guardians -- what you ran into, I'm 99% certain, are those 5 Hybrid Hives on that planet, which are mark V.

As is appropriate, there are literally no guardians on that plant at all, as they're not allowed to seed on the planets adjacent to your starts.

However, you did get unlucky with some angry hybrid hives hanging out right there -- but those are a rather "I want to die" type of minor faction. ;) They should be beatable, but you'd have a hell of a time trying to take that planet early on in.

Though you do say you killed all the guardians, in which case it's a mystery that the save doesn't shed any light on, given that they're all dead. :/ So the best I can do is say that if you see the uber-high guardians out of place again, please save before you kill them. ;)

X, this ticket isn't about the planet selection, I just noted that we had that particular issue, but continued with the game. The issue was that there were Mk5 guardians flying around in a Mk1 world adjacent to the human homeworlds.

Edit:
Check my homeworld, I believe at the point I made the save there was a Mk5 guardian still floating around.

I know it wasn't about the planet selection. However, my strong suspicion was that if there was some sort of exception that caused the other issue, this could also be caused by the same thing.

I see the mark V guardians now -- very odd.

Haven't seen the same kind of behavior in 3.800 though. Did get a few Mk2 guardians that went "what's up?" but that's it. I think, though, that guardians from planets adjacent to planets adjacent to player homewolds like to travel because the other planet is on the front lines and there are no guardians on that planet.

Well, good that it seems gone at least! Guardians won't travel unless they are freed by being shot at by your ships, or at least that should be the case.

I'll keep an eye out in the future, but I did watch some Mk4s or Mk5s come out of a wormhole that had only been scouted and travel through another AI system (only scouted) to go to a third that was only scouted.
