Space Rangers 2 has been brought up a few times in the forums, and they had various game types: arcade, RTS, text adventures, etc. It allowed the player to turn off certain aspects that they didn't like. I keep hearing complaints about certain missions, and the "just don't do them" logic doesn't seem to work. Or, it makes people angry. This would also allow more freedom to develop "out there" missions or ones that appeal to a small percentage of the player base without "bothering" other people. |

I really can't see a downside to this other than allowing a crafty player disable everything except 1 type of mission that they are good at / specced for, and cheesing all the achievements. But let me tell you, if this gets implemented? - I'll never see another journey to perfection mission again! I hate those. |

And those are, by far, my favorite! Maybe you could only pick a few, or something, but yeah, I don't see a down side either. I see a huge upside of the perfect answer to people complaining about specific missions though ;) I might suggest ways to make JtP missions _harder_ and you, um, not ;) We'd all win. |

This could also be used to allow the testing of new mission types, or mission type updates. Certain new missions could be defaulted to "off" in an update and those wishing to "opt-in" test them can. Missions could even have various versions that are mutually exclusive. This is very much "breaking the 4th wall" and goes against the really nice dynamic increase of complexity build in to AVWW. However, mission types are really polarizing and accommodate a large variety of tastes |

Or, alternatively, if the idea of "disabling" a mission type is really bad, the maximum number to be seeded could instead be configurable. It would have a minimum of 1 instead of 1/3 of all missions. This would still force unwanted missions on people who hate them, but fewer. These unwanted missions are always around as reminders of aspects of the game people dislike, because they are never completed. |

Another idea. As new mission types are added based on continent progression, or other dynamic methods, it could "check the box" for the player. Advanced mission types could be grayed out until available. This would allow (here I am assuming again ;) ) much greater ease and freedom in the development of new mission types, or even trees of mission types. You won't have to worry about the people who don't like certain things. Ai War lets the player customize fully which ships are available, and it's awesome! |

Sorry to keep leaving more comments, but here goes... On the AI War similarity, there you have predefined ship "groups" for Simple, Normal and Complex. This could be a different difficulty setting for AVWW missions with presets of mission categories. |

Maybe only let us turn off a limited number, if the problem would be making the game too "easy" |
