It strongly sounds like you have a corrupt copy of the game. Do you have the game through Steam? If so, if you can right-click the game and hit properties, then go and hit Verify Steam Cache, that will fix up any files that did not get properly downloaded via the Steam Client. It's really hard to crash the unity engine in the fashion that you're describing, and that's the engine that the game runs on. Almost 100% of the time when you get a crash like that, it's because of the game files not having downloaded properly. ---- If that doesn't work, I'll need more information unfortunately -- the error log you have there is a bit perplexing, but is unrelated to the issues you're seeing I think. If you have a copy of your world folder that you can zip and attach we can see if we can recreate it (if there's something wrong with your world file, which your UnhandledErrors.txt suggests there is). But also, if there are any other error logs in your RuntimeData folder that would be helpful. Beyond that, what OS are you playing on? If windows, can you post the output.log file file from in the AVWW_Data folder inside of the game's install folder? Hope that helps! |

I just downloaded the demo version of the website. I'll try reinstall after this post. I've recreated the world 4 times now since after it crashes it gets locked so I'll send the first one. I can't see any other errors in the RuntimeData folder. I'm using windows 7 so ill attach the output.log file. |

Hey there -- the output.log file gets overwritten every time that you restart the game, so it looks like there's nothing of interest in that one. However, if you run into another crash, please let us know once you get it back downloaded. You might also check if you have any antivirus programs running that might interfere with the game: like Minecraft and many other procedural games, AVWW writes quite a lot of files quite frequently in order to keep track of the world as it is generated. I seem to recall that an antivirus program might have caused some problems with that sometime way back last year, but it was shortlived to my recollection. Also, if you're using something like Dropbox on the folder in which AVWW is installed that can sometimes cause issues if the Dropbox-like program locks files from the world folder. When AVWW tries to write those files it could cause crashes; we had some reports of that many many months ago, but again that was a shortlived pocket of things. Hope that helps! |

Ok, I've re-downloaded and reinstalled the game still getting the same crash. I don't have dropbox installed, I have switched of the firewall and disabled avast antivirus. I've run into the same crash again whilst using the miasma whip spell. I've added the new output file which has the error, "GfxDevice is in invalid state". |

Hmm, there's nothing in the log that is actually an error -- the "GfxDevice is in invalid state" message is informational only (from the unity 3d engine) and just means that your game was minimized. A firewall definitely would not interfere with this. It sounds like potentially there is a problem relating to sound playback on your machine -- that's the only thing I can think of with miasma whip. If you go into the game settings and disable the sound and music (with the checkboxes, not by just turning it down) does that help matters at all? If so perhaps this is a driver issue with your sound card or something, but that would be quite an unusual issue if so. Beyond that... are you perhaps on a Korean version of windows? The Microsoft Office IME 2010 really messes with the Korean versions of windows: http://www.arcengames.com/forums/index.php/topic,7429.msg61810.html#msg61810 But I didn't jump to that immediately because usually those sorts of things prevent the game from starting at all. In some fashion, something is interfering with the unity 3D engine from doing its normal work; I don't think it's related to your graphics card or drivers, or your firewall. It would either be some other sort of program like the IME that might be input-related or sound-related, or text-related or something similar. We've got several thousand players on the game at this point without the issue, and you did a reinstall so we know it's not corrupt, so the only thing I'm left with is either some sort of bad driver or something interfering with the runtime. Thanks for the help. I've tried switching the sound off, which made the game crash when loading the world. A red error message popped up but I didn't have time to read it since it jumped to the black screen. I tried again and switch all the graphics options down and the sound still off. This time the game loaded and when I use the miasma whip it crashed. I am not using a Korean Version of windows, I am using an English version on a mac book with bootcamp. It's strange since this doesn't happen with any other games (I play a lot in and out of beta) and this game consistently crashes at the same point. Therefore, I would be hard-pressed to say that it is a bad driver... The reason I mentioned the firewall is the second comment on gamersgate, where I was going to purchase the game, mentioned an error which was crashing the computer. Switching off the firewall seemed to help him. |

Both crashes I checked the output for something unique there was nothing and there were no other error logs in any folders. |

I see -- mac version under boot camp. That right there might well be the problem, I don't know. We do have players who run the game under WINE, but that's not technically something that we can support directly as it's pretty much up to the engine if there's going to be crashes of that sort. The same is more or less true with boot camp: we have a native OSX version of the game that runs great. Boot camp isn't something that we've ever tested this under, and given that we're not the engine coders it's not something we can do anything about if there are mysterious crashes with it. You've been really thorough in going through all the various possibilities of things that might be interfering with the game, so at the moment the best guess I have is that boot camp doesn't play nice with unity 3d -- that's the only thing that seems to be different here from other configurations that work flawlessly, anyhow. If it's dumping crash logs into your windows folder, that might give us some more insight (it's labeled "Crash_somethingorother" as a folder with several files, directly in the AVWW folder). But if it's crashing your entire OS, that's something that is probably not happening; this is literally the first reports I've heard of crashing the whole OS. Given the way in which application runtimes in general are sandboxed, and in particular how the mono runtime is sandboxed inside our game inside that, it's pretty hard to lock up the entire machine. Sometimes it _seems_ like the entire machine is locked up if you can't minimize the game and alt+f4 doesn't work, but often alt-tab then works if there's an error message popped up. Doing a complete system lockup is one of those things that really is hard to make happen on windows in general, these days, to be perfectly honest. It's pretty decent at protecting itself from software doing malicious and/or stupid things. I've tried out parallels briefly on my mac, but never did try boot camp, so I can't really comment on what that changes or how that might affect device drivers and so forth. Drivers that malfunction are one of the top ways to get windows to lock up, I will say, though -- given that many of them have very high levels of access, if they have a buffer overflow or similar that can affect system stability in ways that normal programs can't. But it really doesn't seem graphics-related, and you've eliminated sound as the possibility, so that doesn't leave us with many drivers that it could be. That's what makes it seem like there's something else kernel-level-related if it's literally locking up your machine, and the main culprits of that would be DirectX or the boot camp install itself. I'm not really sure what to say beyond that, unfortunately -- hopefully that sparks an idea on something you can change or fix on your system setup itself. If you normally swap back and forth between windows and OSX anyway, then I highly recommend using the native OSX build instead of the windows build through boot camp. If you don't really use OSX, and can't get it to work at all, we'll certainly refund your order. Customers with a game that just won't run after all troubleshooting has passed are certainly not something we want to have. Though I will say, in 3 years and 200,000+ copies of our games sold, you would be the first to absolutely be unable to avoid a crash bug if it comes to that. There had to be a first one sometime, I suppose, but I really don't want you to have the impression that our games normally crash a lot. It's actually so exceedingly rare that we normally go months without a single report; that's what has made your particular case so perplexing. Anyway, apologies for all this hassle! Hopefully either that gives you a clue to help get it working, or if not just shoot us an email at [email protected] with your order email if we need to start a refund process. Or if you have some other lead on what might be happening that I can further help with, I'm happy to do that too! But short of a new lead, for now I think I'm out of ideas. |
