Summary | 0006990: "reach depth two" unlock confusing to new players
Description | I had thought that changing it to "reach second cave system" might be clearer, but kdr 11k rightly pointed out that that could easily be read to mean that you have to travel to two surface chunks with caves and enter both. I'm really not sure if there's a way of making this clear. "Reach second dungeon/section/zone of cave system"? Maybe this is just an odd enough concept that there ought to be a popup when you enter your first cave explaining that they're divided into different dungeons that get harder as you go down and that you have to find a special room to move between them.

I think "Reach Depth X" is about as clear and concise an unlock text as you are going to get, maybe a rewrite of the text when you click on the unlock is in order though because whilst it does try to explain it, to a new player it is probably more confusing than helpful. as it stands the help text is "....Note that this is referring to entire cavern dungeons on the region map, not to individual chunks inside the first cavern dungeon" neither "chunk" nor "cavern dungeon" will mean anything to new players, region map is probably confusing as well (despite the labels on the maps). chunk probably needs to changed to rooms or areas. cavern dungeons to cave system, sounds better at least. "....Note that this is referring to entire cave systems on the region map, not to individual areas inside the first cave system" |
I think I vote room, as that's clearly a space between a few doors, while area could be something bigger. But otherwise that sounds like a good solution to me. Maybe add another sentence to the text saying 'find rooms marked green in the dungeon map to proceed to lower cave systems'? |
Definitely mention the green rooms. I think that would both add clarity and a goal. |
"....Note that this is referring to entire cave systems on the region map, not to individual rooms inside the first cave system. Look inside rooms highlighted green on the dungeon map for entrances to lower cave systems." something like that? |
Seems pretty clear to me, but I haven't been a new player for a while. |
* The unlockables "Reach Depth X" have been renamed to "Reach Cave System X" to aid clarity. ** Folks wanting extra clarity can always click the buttons for a more detailed explanation anyhow, folks know, right? In that description we've added the following clarification on the advice of players: *** In each dungeon map you're looking for a green cavern node that is the one that leads down to a whole new dungeon map. |
