Summary | 0006717: Many Trees/Bushes Slowing Movement
Description | I'm trying to come up with new effects for background objects to make them more 'real', and to think about it in a 2d/3d way, ie. what does having the background object in 2d represent in 3d? One tree wouldn't be much of an obstacle in a 3d environment. But a whole bunch of trees would be hard to get through, even when jumping in the air. Trees could therefore slow you down a little bit as you run past them. Bushes would do the same - perhaps even more - but of course they'd be easy to jump over.

I've experimented with stuff like this, actually (though not recently), and the main thing it creates is annoyance. People _really_ tend to find anything that impedes movement to be unpleasant unless it's rare or special or optional, and making it so ubiquitous would not be popular. My main plan for things like the underground mushrooms is to make them have special death shrapnel that affects enemies and players in various ways, etc. |
