Summary | 0006389: Rare special event: The warp trap
Description | The warp trap is an attribute attached to a door. Entering that door teleports the player into a battle arena in some sort of vortex world where he must fight a special kind of boss unique to the warp trap. The warp trap room doesn't have an exit door, the only ways to leave are killing the boss or using an elusion spell. Once the boss dies the player character reappears on the other side of the door he originally entered. Any player entering the trapped door will end up in the warp trap so people can fight the boss as a group. This should be an exceedingly rare event as it has the potential to annoy if it happens too often and it should never happen in a mission. I haven't thought up specifics for the boss but the point is to provide some random variety.

Personally, I think I'd be annoyed if this happened to me even once. That said, if it were a bit more optional I might be ok with it. Like for example, players CAN leave, but if they don't, there is some really good loot at the end. |

Maybe you could have a pseudo-tutorial pop-up related to this event. You hit e to enter a door, the game generates a random warp trap event, a pop-up appears with a warning that you're about to enter a random warp event - ok to procede, or cancel; plus a "Tick here not to see these warnings in future." |
|
The alternative I was initially thinking of was a simple monster ambush but the warp trap would feel more supernatural and special than that. Basically something that screws with normality, a curve ball the game throws you. |
|
I think I'd prefer mundane ambushes; I feel like the more stuff that can happen in normal buildings, the better. Given how many of them there are, it would be good to add more that gives them a sense of uniqueness. And having to worry about walking through a door could be cool. |
