Summary | 0006208: Make Emit Light less attractive.
Description | Having read a few of the threads\mantis reports about light I'm not going argue for making emit light less available, but I think as it stands enchants where you don't get emit light need to be buffed up somewhat. as an example, the Only torso enchant I have that doesn't emit light is "-50% detectability, -5% vulnerability" compared with "Acid water immunity, good swimmer, emit light, -5% vulnerability" or "emit light, -15% vulnerability" If not having emit light assured you some strong other bonuses then playing just with ball of light and light snake (which is actually pretty fun) would be more, well feasible. EDIT: Having re-read this a couple of times it comes off a bit jumbled, the point i am trying to make is that as it stands it's verging on impossible to actually play without an emit light enchant, rather all the "good" enchants generally have emit light attached to them, I simply wish to balance the scales as it were.

I agree with this, although the points Chris raises in the comments of Mantis 0004713 cover a lot of the rationale behind not making light a generally scarce resource. Nonetheless, personally I would still like a viable way to play with Ball of Light -so there should be at least as many enchants out there without emit light as with it. And really, I'd like to see a model where Emit Light is considered as useful a trait as a lot of others, so you might have it on maybe 30% of the enchants you get; or you get it just as frequently but the other stats on that enchant are less effective as a result. Actually, that gives me an idea. |

In general, making people do without an automatic light source isn't something we plan -- it's just annoying, and one of our express goals was not to make people choose between combat buffs and a light. Then people choose the buffs and complain. However, as more enchants and enchant-effects are added, the chance of getting emit light in the mix on any given enchant will go down. So in a way, you'll naturally get your wish as this progresses. |
