Description | Originally, the AI had turrets, and bombers and other units countered turrets. Now, the AI has guardians, but the guardians come in many different flavors of armor types - including heavy, medium, refractive, and artillery. This means that bombers no longer fill their role of cracking enemy defenses. Also, the siege starship should probably be good against guardians, but currently the siege starship is equally ineffective against all of them, since the siege starship has bonuses against turrets and structures. Likewise, infiltrators are supposed to be good for blowing up defenses but actually aren't useful for the player, since AI defenses don't fall under the turret armor type. Since "ultra-heavy" is currently used mainly for fortresses, and guardians fill basically the same role as fortresses as terrifying semi-mobile defenses, it would make sense for guardians to be unified under that armor type - both for making the armor types more intuitive and for balance purposes. | ||||

Nope, that's the beauty of this sort of armor types now: guardians, starships, etc, can all have different types, which makes different player ships good against them in various contexts. |
