The black widow golem has a range of 19k, and its tractor beams have a range of 12k, so I don't think it's because the guns can't shoot the tractored stuff. |

might be a situation where he is in a system with a radar dampener? might need to add the reverse of tractored ships can always shoot the source of the tractor. or else have tractors affected by the dampening. |

Whoops, I didn't notice the radar jammer (and apparently the normal range of the widow), but yep that would be the cause of it. I blame the drowsiness. >_> Best if the weapon range always exceeds the tractor range, so radar jammers should affect tractor range. |

Would it make sense for tractor's to shorten when the ship can't hit the tractored target? This would solve more general cases of this problem, especially if you entered a system with a radar jammer after you'd already picked up a target at max tractor range (damping affecting tractors doesn't fix this case). |

Sorry for the off topic comment, but I am laughing really hard right now imagining this. It's basically like tying a stick with a carrot in from of it on the head of a horse or rabbit or something. "I keep running towards it, but I never get any closer. WHY!" |
