Summary0005756: Bunch of spell ideas
DescriptionAs per title, a bunch of general spell ideas that are probably already mentioned, but I figured why not it might get some light bulbs shining. More mechanics of the spell instead of exact ideas. Some would go together to make something different again (eg explosive + bounce, explosive + ricochet, Spread + homing + ricochet etc)

Beam - Hold fire to shoot a continuous stream.
Lightning - Similar to beam, but goes a bit 'crazy' and can jump between enemies.
Wave - Like what the clockwork things fire.
Bounce - Similar to wave in a way, but more like a bouncy ball bouncing along the ground.
Explosive - Projectile that detonates after a set distance, time, at whatever point you clicked to shoot it, on impact etc. Could just explode, or launch other projectiles.
Ricochet - Projectile can bounce off surfaces
Mine - Like the lights we can put down now, but explodes or deals damage to enemies that hit it. Probably quite limited duration to prevent cheese.
Homing - Homes onto enemies, pretty explanatory.
Spread - Shotgun style, wide AoE at medium ranges, good damage up close or at large targets.
Spear - Enemies get dragged by the projectile (more knock-back resistant enemies would get moved less, something like a bat would be dragged along the full range of the projectile). 'Pinning' would be cool too, holding a suitable enemy pinned to a surface for a second or two until the spear dissipates (or explodes!).
Wall - Similar to mine, a wall of whatever element for a short while, enemies passing through take a bit of damage.
Charge - Instead of a projectile firing as soon as you click down, it fires when you release the mouse, and gains power or extra effects (if a multi-shot gets extra projectiles for example) as you hold it down. Could enforce no/slower movement while charging if wanted for balance (or utility if it works while in the air too) - Would be crazy as if you combined a charged beam that slows you greatly as you're charging, jump into the air in front of a bosses face, charge up and yell 'KAMEHAMEHA!!'.
Rapid shot - A single click fires a burst of projectiles instead of one.

Also, some "utility" effects, buffs etc:
Mana Regeneration - Channeled spell that gives back mana instead of costing it. Maybe make you vulnerable and stationary while casting.
Sacrifice - Lose health to get some mana back. Either something like 50% damage for triple mana regen rate for 20 seconds, or just full mana etc.
Windstorm - You push things away for some time. Kind of like when you're the source of a mini windstorm (deflects projectiles a bit, light enemies have a harder time approaching you etc)
Health Magnet - Health pickups don't stop following you when you're full health for a while.

I've probably forgotten a few, I'll add them if I recall :-)

I know this is a pain -- but can you put the spells as seperate mantis ideas? Otherwise the discussion about them, if there is any, gets all muddled up. And when we do one spell, we have no way of marking it complete. And we have no way of finding them from the listing itself, we just have to click into every listing to see what "bunch of spells" means from each person.

Thanks!

Ah yep not a problem. I was initially thinking I shouldn't do that to flood the boards, but it is easy enough if that is what is desired :-)

Hmm just started doing this and I'm not sure how I should be organizing the crossplay between the modifiers. For example I started with beam, should I note down the variants I can think of too? Ricocheting beam, explode on impact beam, spread beam, Charged beam (presumably with an explanation of what I mean by charged?)

Edit: Went ahead and submitted the beam, if that's the kind of thing you're meaning I'll add the rest :-)

Noting variants inside the parent topic seems like the smart way to do it to me, thanks. :)

Ok, since you are going ahead and adding those separately, I'm going to go ahead an close this one. Looks like some good ideas in there Armanant!
